If my bank or other companies I use outsource their call centres to another country then I will be taking my business elsewhere (i.e. a company whose call centres are based in the UK). I mean, come off it, I know these companies need to save money be cutting costs but they have a social responsibility to provide work for the local communities. Why should I give my hard earned cash to companies when they invest that money in call centres outside the UK ? Companies expect loyalty from customers, but the company doesn't show the same loyalty to the local community. The companies argument is of course they have to stay competitive, what I would love to see happen is for ALL people in the UK to switch to companies loyal to employing people in the UK, then these companies who outsource to other countries will lose all their customers in the UK which means they can concentrate on getting customers from the countries they outsourced to. Then who knows, those companies can outsource their entire company to those countries because they won't have a customer base in the UK.
  • Although I agree with everything said so far about supporting locally etc, are we not all bargain hunters given a chance? When it comes to renewing car insurance etc we look for the best deal and how many of us ask 'where is your customer service call centre' before making our choice? With two teenagers on our car insurance policy we found there was a massive difference in policy prices between companies. How am I to know whether the more expensive companies also have call centres abroad?

It is interesting the NatWest have made this sort of inhumanising of service a feature in their current adverts. I hope it is the start of a new trend....

...how many of us ask 'where is your customer service call centre' before making our choice? ....

I never have before, but I'm going to make a point of it now.

Good customer service ranks just as highly as price to me. I've had enough of feeling frustrated everytime I require help, I would happily choose a company who perhaps charges a little more if they had a UK based cs department.

Of course there may be some instances where I don't have the luxury of choice...Sky for example. There's no cable in my area so if we want satellite tv then it has to be Sky.  :-/

When was the last time you heard of a company passing their cost savings as a result of outsourcing onto the customer by reducing premiums. Any cost savings made will contribute towards company profits which means increased dividends for the shareholders !

For the sake of pleasing a few shareholders, the city & lining the pockets of company directors, we the consumer receive substandard service. Whatever happened to 'customer is king' ?

I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE THEIR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE IF COMPANIES OUTSOURCE !

    Please don't be so naive.

Call centres in India are a real sore point with me. I worked for 192 for 10 years before they decided to send the work over there.

As for Norwich Union when i was sorting out our car insurance last year I put the phone down the 1st time I I couldn't understand a word the guy was saying, on the 2nd call I could almost understand the guy if he repeated everything 10 times.

i got connected to an Indian call centre for my catalogue and after about 7 attempts of him trying to put in my account number he said he had to call a superviser as something was wrong with my account no. I put the phone down as i was ordering some personalised items and figured if he couldn't get past putting the account number in he's no chance spelling names right.
I then rang up spoke to a scottish lady who put my order through no probs!!!! :) The account number went through first time!!!!!!!!

They drive me bonkers also.Half the time I gennuinly cant tell what they are saying and end up feling rude for asking them to repeat themselves, like they think I'm taking the mickey. They dont seem to know anymore than thier script and it usually ends up being a frustrating waste of time.
I saw a progamme on t.v about them.Learning how to appear English, and watching episodes of eastenders. They give themselves an English name, I had one guycall me claiming to be Hamish Macbeth!!! made me laugh , especialy with the strong Indian accent!
