If they have told you that you cannot be covered at your new address, then when you move you will incur their normal cancellation charges as they will cancel the cover.
So find an insurer now that is happy with both your current address and your proposed new one.0 -

So if THEY refuse to transfer to New address and THEY cancel the insurance, I would still get cancellation fee and admin fee charged???. I will be refusing to pay ANYTHING if they are the people who cancelled the insurance.
Also it was only online they wouldn't accept it, I didn't speak to them personally.0 -
Also I think I will still be within the 14 day's cooling off period, would I still incur the same costs or would I get my deposit back (I pay monthly)0
-
To be honest, I think your asking for trouble. If they were happy to cover the new address it would be online.
You could argue the case that they have refused cover on the address you are moving to and therefore refuse to pay cancellation charge, but what's to stop them saying, ok, we can cover that address after all, the additional premium will be £10,000?0 -

Then I refuse to pay and go to the financial ombudsmen service as they are pretty much bullying me in to paying a ridiculous price.0 -
Doubt you would win, it's up to them to set a price, your choice to pay it or not
You already know they don't want to provide cover at new address, you already know they charge admin fees and cancellation charges. So my advice would be to look at other providers who will cover both addresses and who may not charge fees for changing address midterm. Have you tried aviva? Also go through a cash back site to reduce the difference in premium
Or
You could continue looking for a fight and go with 1st central content in the knowledge that this will be forthcoming right at the time you need to move. Your choice I guess0 -

Escalating a complaint to the ombudsman is always worth a try no matter how poor your case is as there is no charge to you, but a hefty charge to be paid by the insurer if the ombudsman decides to investigate.
Though in your case the charges you are complaining about are not "ridiculous" - as has been pointed out in the thread, you agreed the cancellation fees when first taking out the policy!
If you prolong this you may have a problem getting proof of your NCD from them. Most insurers won't co-operate until all outstanding money is cleared. Any escalation to the FOS will take time to be concluded.
This will mean you having to explain all this to a new insurer and hoping they will accept you without immediate proof.
Maybe best to use the cooling off period to cancel, pay whatever you owe "under protest" (so you can still pursue your complaint) then you won't have the NCD issue and can get cover for your new address elsewhere.0 -
My problem is the only insurance companies that will insure me at my current address are expensive at my current address (think it was like £90com) with about a £200 deposit, yet they charge me a cheaper price at the New address.
Where as 1st central is about £90 deposit at current address and costing about £37pcm.
The house I am after is only available on 10th (8 days) and since I cancelled my current insurance, I have until 6th to get new insurance.0 -
Could you not consider temporary insurance with a specialist temp insurance provider for the 4 days?0
-
If you are only at your current address for 4 days, surely the cost at the new address is the important one.0
