funkysnow - if you're looking for something small but for her (not the baby), I've heard the book "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy (?) is quite good.

Hi, wife is in week 5, and we haven't a clue whats going to happen.

has anyone got a sort of checklist/calendar of pregnancy?
ie: what you should do? and when?
    week x - 1st scan
week x - apply for xx
    week x - 2nd scan

Also, can my wife get free prescriptions now? Does she need to prove she is pregnant?

Finally, at what point should you let people know you are pregnant?
like parents? friends? work? i'm bursting to start telling people.

i'm excited & scared at the same time!!

shoudl i like buy a book about pregnancy? or just be more relaxed about it all, and go with the flow?
Right I'd say do the following
    • Sign up to babybentre.co.uk (both of you) they send weekly emails of what is happening/what your OH may be experiencing in the next few weeks etc
    • visit the NHS pregnancy site NHS Pregnancy Home there is a general guide of what will happen when with regards to antne-natal care
    • check this site for what benefits happen when and if ur entitled Expecting or bringing up children : Directgov
    • Lastly call the GP's as tell receptionist your OH has had a BFP and they will book her in with someone (either GP, MW or practice Nurse depending on how they work it at ur practice)
    • have a nice cup of tea while you fry your brain reading all the information!:D

Ladies - not sure if this is the best place or I should start a new thread but I'd like your advice...

My best friend is pregnant - but she lives quite far away and we have the kind of friendship where we don't see/talk that often (but we are there instantly if needed!) I was lucky to be with her one weekend when she did her pregnancy test and at the time we couldn't figure the result - there was a line but so feint it was hardly visible. Anyway a few weeks down the line and doc's have confirmed she's preggers...

I'd like to send her a little gift - something easily postable - and wondered if there are any things that you received or had to buy for yourselves that were a godsend - particularly in the early days. My initial thoughts were a book - but then I didn't want to send something 'serious', then there are all sorts of baby ideas - but I feel its too early and also I would like to get something for my friend not the baby...

    Thanks in advance
I'd go for a shoebox sized hamper with a bottle of bio-oil (cheapest from wilkinsons £4.99 or currently £8.99 but 3-4-2 in boots) a pack of gingernut biscuits, sickness bands, digestive biscuits and any other things you can find that people recommend for morning sickness.
I personally survived for about 2 months on gingernuts, and lucozade :o

AM - Just ask the MW some MWs refuse to do sweeps until past your due date but you won' know until you ask :)

Sls - hope bubba doesn't hang on in there too long!

Ladies big news .... Coleen Rooney IS pregnant :p (As if we didn't know she was just waiting for her OK! exclusive )

    Morning all :)

Managed to have dinner and watch 24 yesterday, before trying to get some sleep. Pain was pretty bad, so phoned CDU at 1am. Spoke to nice midwife, who asked me what I wanted to do. My reply - "Lie on the floor and cry". She advised taking paracetamol and calling them later. Pain was less intense while trying to sleep, more constant. Very upset stomach, so phoned at 5am to check that was alright. Different Midwife who said its probably early labour, but it might fizzle out. Got consultant appointment at 2:30pm, MW thinks that they'll do an internal to check what is going on. Only just out of bed, waiting to see what pain is like today.

Its a very weird pain that makes me very emotional - when its bad I end up clinging on to OH and crying. Very silly!
