have a look at homecall broadband i signed up sometime ago for homecall broadband and anytime phonecalls, the modem etc is free but you are locked into a one year contract but i have no complaints about the service at all. i have only one bill as they charge me my line rental too thus no more bt... wey hey, all my landline phonecalls (ie start with 01 or 02) all day and night &w/e are free i use the phone alot so this is gr8 for me, you have to pay for mobiles and non geographicals ie 0870 , 0845 but if you need to phone say sky t.v(famous for charging a fortune while forever on hold)look them up on http://www.saynoto0870.com where you will get a landline or sometimes even a freephone no. for the company you wish to call thus making all calls free(except mobiles). for this i pay 35 pound a month (12.50 for phone calls,12.50 for b/band and 10.00 line rental, oh and the broadband package im on is only 1mg but infact when i look at my internet connection status it says 2.2mbs  and there is also no d/l limits my kids are always on here d/l some kinda rubbish and not once have we had any probs

    hope this helps charlie x

    Hi charlie

I see you are on a one year contract with Homecall but when this comes up for renewal please do have a good look into what they are offering you.

You say all your phone calls are free but then go on to say it is £12.50 a month for phone calls. When you are in a "free" package like this you are paying that £12.50 every month of the year whether you are in the country or not and no matter how many calls in a month you make.

Always worth sitting down with your bill one month and checking exactly how many calls you are making and the "value" of them.

I've been with BT for over 3 years - not the cheapest, but I've had no issues at all. In fact, when I got a new PC a few months ago, I couldn't get the BT BB software disk to load, I'd had it 3 years and for some reason it had become corrupt - rang them and a guy talked me through a manual set-up, he was ace! Not only that, but 2 days later I received a new disk in the mail, which I'd forgotten to ask for but which he'd sent as a courtesy! :T

I'm with BT too - I'm still contemplating the hassle of swopping - today they rang me and knocked £5.00 off my bill - it will tie me in for 12 months so I have a week to see if theer is a better deal for me out there - I think they'll probably be riinging all their customers

I'd get a Dlink router with a modem built in, as they are excellent and then you don't need to get a modem from your isp either, so less hasstle when changing supplier, and you dont have to set up two separate pieces of equipment.

We have the DSL-G604T which is excellent but have had it a few years so there might be a more up to date version of this. You can also get it with a Wireless USB Dongle included which you could use with your pc DSL-904 and with a wireless cardbus included for laptops DSL-902 but I suspect most laptops have wireless built in these days.

anybody have any 'sincere' views about talktalk broadband: all i've heard so far is bad, but as is often the case this drowns out the good news...i don't want to switch from my existing Onetel broadband (which is v.reliable), only to end up with a non-functional isp.

could i have your advice on something? i know with an adsl modem router, you can connect multiple machines together and therefore browse the web simultaneously. what i'd like to know is, does the 'main' computer the modem/router is attached to have to be ON in order for the other computers to access the web? hope this makes sense. what i am asking is - can i have ANY computer browsing the web in isolation, or does the 'main' computer have to be switched on also? thanks

With a modem/router. The ADSL line goes straight into the router, and all the computers on the network run out of that. Any computer plugged into the router can access the net without having to switch on any other computers.

Just the modem/router needs to be on, there is no main computer. So any computer can browse at any time, whilst the others are on or off.
