Do much investigation into ISP's, read the forums, read the problems users have if any (and how often).
Nothing worse than contracting to a ISP if they aint gonna supply you with a usable service.0 -
Ive recently moved out of a cable area and ive been doing my homework for some time looking into adsl . Im happy to share my findings here . Any of the deals i seen had capped restrictions which really put me off . To me broadband is all about not worrying how much m/bs come down the pipe . Anyhow to cut a long story i found a cracking deal . Its a special offer at the moment and its still running as we speak . For a tenner a month you get 1g/b uncapped adsl service . Check it out yourself , its a really cracking deal . You have to pay up front for the year and a £50 connection fee but this gets you a brand spanking new adsl modem and a microfilter to plug into your bt socket .
Heres how it went for me .
1. Day 1 signed up online
2. Day 2 recieved comfirmation email explaining my order was placed and they would take to do with getting bt to adapt my line for adsl .
3. Day 5 - Brand new adsl modem and Microfilter arrive via the royal mail to my door .
4. Day 7 - Email arrives to say that bt have completed the work and im ready to rock and roll . I connected the modem to my pc and within 5 mins i was surfing at lightening speeds .
Forgot to say you also get a free .co.uk registration and 50m/b of webspace .
I havent seen a deal that comes close to this and as i say its really fast .
The company its with is euro1net.
thanks in advance

When I had to have ADSL I went for Btinternet (long time ago), Nildram and then Pipex.
Nildram and Pipex kind of run from the same network anyhow so not much difference here...very good service but as reported here already they cap.
I think its hard to find a ISP that doesnt cap but has the reliable service like those of Nildram and Pipex.0 -
Thanks for all your help, I will look into the recomendations provided by everyone.
Thanks again

I wouldn't go near either of them, Toucan are Tiscali in disguise, they may advertise no broadband limit, but thats not true, read Tiscali's "Fair Usage Policy", if thet think you download to much, they send you emails, then they reduce your speed at peak times, to a crawl.
Cheap but nasty, unrealiable, crap speeds, and customer service is non-existant, premium rate telephone number, 50p a minute.
Look at the Tiscali forum

Hope this helps
Come on mate, as bad as they may be, Customer Service is NOT 50p per minute.
Tiscali are fine as long as you dont download 24/7, keep heavy downloads outside of the 6PM-11PM Fair Use period and its fine.
Ive been using em for nearly two years, started on 150k, had my fair share of problems and warnings but all in its not too bad for the amount I pay compared with other ISPs.0 -

Hi
I have to disagree, I use to be with Lineone, until Tiscali took over, it clearly stated "Unlimited broadband" as it still does, just go over to their website and see, misleading don't you think.
I use to download a couple of gigs a week, certaintly no more than 10, is that a heavy user, I think not.
They are oversubscribed and getting worse all the time, what they want are people that just browse the internet, and get their emails and then they are happy.
I wasn't getting the service that I was paying for, so as soon as they started giving out MAC Codes, I was away, this was another thing that they didn't subscribe to until lately, again I wonder why.
As for premium rates, when I made a phone call to them, and I was on the line for approx 17mins, my bill was £8+ can't remember exactly, so what do you think about that, is that a fair rate for a phone call.
So I think we'll agree to disagree and if you want to recommend them fine, but I would certaintly never.0
