Looking at Martins Money Tips for 28Feb he seems to recommend Tiscali as a major player, are they really this bad if he has put them on this site???0

I've been with BT for over 3 years - not the cheapest, but I've had no issues at all. In fact, when I got a new PC a few months ago, I couldn't get the BT BB software disk to load, I'd had it 3 years and for some reason it had become corrupt - rang them and a guy talked me through a manual set-up, he was ace! Not only that, but 2 days later I received a new disk in the mail, which I'd forgotten to ask for but which he'd sent as a courtesy! :TI only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.0

Tiscali have been one of the most consistently complained about ISPs in the UK for the past year. They have certainly stayed in the top three most complained about ISPs in all this time. I like Martins emails, but I was a bit disturbed over his broadband article in that I felt he was comparing price too much over quality of service. If a company (such as Tiscali) have stayed one of the most complained about ISPs in the UK for so long, it doesn't say much for the service they are offering.
Paying a cheaper price is fine as a moneysaving exercise, but if you are not receiving the service you pay for (at any price), then the service may not equate to good value for money. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I agree with Rex. Tiscali do have a few problems. The price may appear to be saving money, but if you aren't getting a good service it's actually quite the opposite.
I for example, joined Freedom2Surf to save £4 a month over an equivalent service. I'm supposed to be on an 8mb line, and during peak hours am lucky if I get a dial up speed. It's been a wasted three months, and I'll be leaving them soon. The £4 saving probably actually worked out at a loss due to the poor service I've had.
Freedom2Surf are also part of the Pipex group, and that's basically when they turned bad. F2S was one of the better ISP's a while back, now it really is quite poor.
I've always found Eclipse to be great. Not as good as someone like Zen, but they offer good value and a great service. Always maxed out speeds, no packet loss, good customer service (landline call rates), and near 100% uptime."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

have a look at homecall broadband i signed up sometime ago for homecall broadband and anytime phonecalls, the modem etc is free but you are locked into a one year contract but i have no complaints about the service at all. i have only one bill as they charge me my line rental too thus no more bt... wey hey, all my landline phonecalls (ie start with 01 or 02) all day and night &w/e are free i use the phone alot so this is gr8 for me, you have to pay for mobiles and non geographicals ie 0870 , 0845 but if you need to phone say sky t.v(famous for charging a fortune while forever on hold)look them up on http://www.saynoto0870.com where you will get a landline or sometimes even a freephone no. for the company you wish to call thus making all calls free(except mobiles). for this i pay 35 pound a month (12.50 for phone calls,12.50 for b/band and 10.00 line rental, oh and the broadband package im on is only 1mg but infact when i look at my internet connection status it says 2.2mbs
and there is also no d/l limits my kids are always on here d/l some kinda rubbish and not once have we had any probs
hope this helps charlie x0 -

Anyone looked at UKOnline, or got any thoughts about them?
I'm generally all for signing up for Eclipse again (about to move) but my flat mates want something a little cheaper. 1mb unlimited on Eclipse is £24 a month, whereas 2mb unlimited on UKOnline is £15 a month. I know they have a fair usage policy, where a 2mb connection may have a limit of 20-30gb a month, but we won't be exceeding this."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Thanks for all your help guys, I have finally taken the plunge and gone for madasafish for £10.99 for 6 Months then £16.99 for the next 6 Months, averaging £13.99 per Month over the 12 Month period. Free modem and router, 2Mbps and 5Gb download limit. Hopefully not a bad choice and a competative price. Will have to wait and see !!!
Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

wonderfullife wrote:As for premium rates, when I made a phone call to them, and I was on the line for approx 17mins, my bill was £8+ can't remember exactly, so what do you think about that, is that a fair rate for a phone call.
This sounds like you called 0906 3006633 which is the 50p/min helpline. According to https://www.saynoto0870.com you can call the Tiscali helpline on 0845 0774488, which is a non-geographic "local" rate call.
