Im confused. Exactly where is this recovery disc coming from for 12 quid? I sent a link to Avira for FREE? All you need is a blank cd to put it on

Bios ~ Most computers you would keep presing the 'delete' key to bring up BIOS on boot up.
BIOS is used to set the computer up if say a graphics card was added or you wouldnt to change the boot sequence etc:idea:0 -
ahha I see....sorry...carp at computers! Anyway...update is that I spoke to acer and after investigations it seems that the laptop is indeed dead...cant even get it to go back to factory settings and I am reliably informed by acer that if thats the case its too expensive to be worth fixing...time to investigate a new one.
Cant do without one and any suggestions, pref from laptops direct (reliable and can get quidco cashback) would be appreciated
Cheap as chips and reconditioned no prob...
Re red dwarf is the new series really a new series or a rerun of the old?! Thought you may know in view of avi and location!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
ISOM - don't give up on this just yet....you're more likely to get this going again with help on here than from Acer......but if the worst comes to the worst...look at this..decent spec at a good price

or plenty to chose from at bigpockets (I've had from there)

Thanks gun jack...do think its prob dead though - also asked some people in work (always suspiscious of people who make it!!) and they said it would cost so much to fix that it wouldnt be worth it...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! both have 2GB ram, one I linked to has larger hard drive, and low memory warnings are related to virtual memory, which is held on your hdd....both have 12 month warranty, and the first one is almost half the price.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

well
Unless im missing something ~ its just bluescreening yes? You KNOW it was infected anyways so thats almost certainly going to be the problem (Or 'A' problem at least)
Surely its worth creating a bootdisc to give it a shot for the price of a blank cd:idea:0 -
absolutely RiK......why buy another if the existing one can be saved?? As I pointed out above, a bit of patience and following some advice on here can and has worked wonders...forking out for another one should ALWAYS be a last resort

ISOM - think you need to get yourself into your BIOS....when you switch on, on the first screen that's displayed, you should see instructions telling you which key to press to enter Setup or BIOS or Settings or something similar...note which key it is..as RiK pointed out, on a lot of pc's it's the Del key, on a lot of lappys it's often a diferent one, maybe F2, F8 or another one...THAT is the key you need to hold down as soon as you power on for the lappy to enter BIOS. Then, some/most of the other stuff should be possible..
...and then it's over to the RiKmiester as I'm not familiar with Avira recovery disks
small steps...but effective steps.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Umm...problem is that I cant get anywhere pressing anything!
As I said above it just goes in a cycle and I cant get it to open anywhere....its not that I dont want to try it but that its just not working! I have tried to do all the things that people have suggested but have been unable to do any of them. I know that getting a new one is a last resort but at this point feeling very frustrated, close to tears and while not wanting to fork out extra money also dont want to continue trying to flog what seems to be a very dead horse...
Not helped by the fact that I loathe computers and just dont understand them and keep being given conflicting advice by various people and have no clue how to sort the info given cos I have no clue what I'm doing!!
