Drink driving

please excuse me if this is in the wrong place... I have quite a dilema, you see, i know someone, a mother of 2 kids who openly drinks in the local pubs, then gets into her car and drives, usually straight to school to pick her kids up. i'm worried one day that she will do someone an injury including her own kids. please don't suggest i speak to her because she's hardly the kind of person who takes advice from anyone. what would you do??

Phone the police. Not the 999 number unless an actual crime is being committed, so (you have seen her drink and get in the car to drive off). Use the local number you can get from your police areas website. You'll need the car description/reg details/pub details/description of driver. (Can you tell that I have done this more than once!)
You could also report her to social services. They will not turn up suddenly and take away the kids, so please do not be afraid that that might happen.
What these organisations do with the info is their business. But you will have done what you can.0 -
Call the local police station and talk to them, giving them the full information - it's bad enough that she's drink driving, even worse that she's doing it with her kids in the car, but what's worst is that she's doing it near a school when the kids are coming out.
The police will probably send someone down to watch during school pick up times etc if it's a regular thing.0 -
Thanks skylight, i know for sure that the person concerned has had visits from social services in the not too distant past for unrelated issues, i suppose i fear of any backlash if she were to find out it was me who shopped her, we had a run in only a week ago (she was drunk then too), so she may point the finger at me.. on the other hand i don't want my child put at risk because of her carelessness.
thanks for you speedy reply too...:o0 -
Hi DD1966
I too would like to encourage you to report this irresponsible woman to the local police. (My poor Mum was badly injured by a drunk driver). I'm sure you're not the only person to have noticed her inebriated state, so she shouldn't necessarily assume that it's you who've reported her.
Good luck with it anyway ... the woman sounds like a bit of a horror!
Bestest.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have spoken in depth to my other half about this and has agreed with all you guys, she shouldn't be allowed to get away with it, the only thing that worries me a little is if the police do stop her and she's under the limit, that'll be the end of it and she'll just carry on doing it, because beleive me she won't care a hoot if she's been stopped once, she already thinks she'e infalible!! everyone in our village knows what she's like, so no she won't know who has reported her.....will do the deed tomorrow and see what happens.....thanks all x0

Shop her before she kills someone.
I had a contractor working for me who had drinking problems, and would retire to his car throughout the day and swig from a bottle. This got worse and worse with time.
I told him numerous times that driving home was unacceptable, and would take his keys off hime to prevent him driving. He then got wise to this and started bringing his spare set in.
I called the police who suggested the following day send him off home at 4pm. They were waiting for him outside the factory gates.
He received a 2 year ban (and also gave us a very easy excuse to terminate his contract). The police do take action.0 -
If you do report them, make sure you give the police specific details (if you have them) - make/model/colour/registration of car, where it is parked and what time she usually leaves the pub.
A vague complaint will have little result, however a detailed complaint will be more likely to get a car sent to deal with it.
