Sadly I was taken in by purchasing one of these products in September 2003. Unfortunately I now need to try and cash in this policy due to my partner recently losing her job. I worked out the total premium I have paid to date is £3600. Less the £210 I received from the 1st five years leaves an amount of £3390. I telephoned Axa yesterday & they've quoted me a surrender value of just £2882. I've noted on this thread several people outside of the claims window have successfully managed to reclaim their money's plus a little interest. Any advice on how I should proceed with claiming and perhaps a draft of a letter that seems to be mentioned would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

Will send you the letter now via PM.
  • hi WISHICOULDAFFORDIT, I couldn't see the letter in my PM inbox, i'd be grateful if you could re-send it please. Many thanks.

  • hi

i got this thread through a seasrch

i have one of these, matures in 2012. £20 a month

I had no idea you could cash them in.

i have called them up, current surrender value £2655 (a bit less than i have paid in) but assuming 3% growth should be £3400 atthe end

i asked for their recent growth figures, which are 2%

its looking like i should hold on to it, my bonuses are £600. i assume i would lose these

You get the surrender value which includes bonuses accrued to date minus a surrender charge and a reduction in the guaranteed sum assured.

  • indeed

but 2655 now or 3400 in 30 months time (whilst contributing 20 a month) is a bit of a no brainer.

    or have i missed something?

At this stage you may well be better holding off until the maturation date, assuming you don't have the get-out clause of buying in the timeframe mentioned above.
  • many thanks to wishicouldafford it. AXA have agreed to cancel the policy & are sending me a refund plus interest.

    Excellent - well done :j
  • My thanks also to wishicouldaffordit - sent my letter off to AXA on March 23 and money was paid into my account yesterday ! I stumbled on this thread whilst looking for advice on debts so have now killed two birds with one stone and have a nice amount now in savings too. Only thing left now is my PPI reclaim from First Plus which is with, regrettably, Ashworth Law, wish I'd done it myself. Anyone care to offer any positive results on that front ?!!
