Great thread. I had forgotten that I had taken out one of these awful plans until a recent statement.

I think I may qualify for a refund as my Bonus Cashbuilder Policy was taken out
    October 2002.

I started with just £10 a month, every year increasing by £2 a month until it reached £20 a month in 2007.

    My current figures are:
    Death Value: £2430
    Maturity Value (Oct 2017): £2211
Surrender Value: £1170 (I reckon I've paid in about £1400)

If I do qualify for a refund under the FSA ruling what do I need to do?
    Thanks.

    Hi all.

Just stumbled upon this thread - I have a Sunlife policy maturing this year, after 25 years, and was just wondering if anyone knew the current terminal bonus rate (if there is one!!).

Policy was originally taken out by a very naive 20 year old and, thankfully, was for 'only' £15 per month.

    Many thanks.

I've just received my refund from Axa. Thanks to wishicouldaffordit who sent me the templete letter. Axa have deducted about £70 interest (20% Basic Tax Payer).
I've been unemployed since August (so am a non-tax payer) but had in work the previous 7 years I was paying into the policy, so can I claim back the full £70 or not?
  • just to let everyone know what happened ~ both my self and my partner got all our money back plus bank of England base rate +1% ~ happy days :T

Many thanks to Pramsay13 for the template, worked a treat :D

some of the money will be going into the A&L ISA at 3.5% !

  • Could you please PM me the letter also.

will send it to you now.
  • Sadly I was taken in by purchasing one of these products in September 2003. Unfortunately I now need to try and cash in this policy due to my partner recently losing her job. I worked out the total premium I have paid to date is £3600. Less the £210 I received from the 1st five years leaves an amount of £3390. I telephoned Axa yesterday & they've quoted me a surrender value of just £2882. I've noted on this thread several people outside of the claims window have successfully managed to reclaim their money's plus a little interest. Any advice on how I should proceed with claiming and perhaps a draft of a letter that seems to be mentioned would be most appreciated. Many thanks.
