Is paid Debt Management REALLY so bad?

  • it should.....I know it just won a financial award from MSE recently voted by the service users here (I think it was January time which you can probably search) so MSE would advocate it amongst the charities who give free debt help. Who runs the List and can you have it added?

I know its on Martins list of companies somewhere on the main site - will go find it now

The site looks very interesting. Seems they do help non-christians, with the religion being more about the ethics of it.

EDIT: sorry just realised other people had said this already.

I wonder if that is going to get added to Non-profit Debt Counsellors' List

I agree that CAP should be included in Martin Lewis's list, but apparently it is not yet available throughout the country.
I have heard nothing but good reports about them, and I can happily confirm that they do not insist on the 'debtor' either being, or becoming a Christian in order to qualify for their help.
I also hear that they can have a more 'hands on' involvement than some organisations.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

They dont have centres available throughout the country which means they cannot offer individual support workers to everybody. The support workers are volunteers and generally are run from wherever there is a centre. They opened their 100th centre in the UK this week so they are a big company.

However, they do also operate CAP direct which is basically the same as payplan and CCCS which is a central office (run from Bradford) where they deal over the phone, and in writing and can set up the DMP from there.

If even that does not help, they have produced this http://capuk.org/downloads/CAP_self_help_pack.pdf

All this makes them a good option in my book :)

ps. sorry for kidnapping your thread WIFB!

  • Boards are closed tonight for two days so you might want to sign up again under a fresh name and come back monday for a fresh start :)

If I change the name people like Dave and his trousers are just going to use that to say they were right all along.

Will keep the name, and will keep in mind to remind a few of the longer term members from this thread that they are not judge and jury, and if they wish to police this forum they need to learn to do it differently.

Overall though, most people here have been very helpful and I know feel much more confident to continue with Payplan. So I'm not complaining about that.

glad to hear you will stick with us. Please do, then you will understand why people have reacted in the way they did when you see people attacked by trolls.

I do hope you find the information here useful and that even the hardened long termers here will come around in time as you go through your dfw journey.

The thread has calmed down, some good advice given so dont worry about your name - it was just initially a thought. There are quite a few names on here which I bet people would change on hindsight but it is hard enough to get one when you consider how many users are on here.

I am signing out now but all the best over the next few days and we look forward to being of help as you get stuck in to the debt. Please do keep us informed about how you get on.

There is no excuse for the way a few of the members were. I will never understand why some people wish to play 'god' on forums. Probably because they can do so (semi-)anonymously.

Thank you for your kind words and assistance. I am very pleased to have the capuk info.

To all those that replied sensibly to me (and gave me the benefit of the doubt when others were so rude), have a nice weekend!
