    Hi Quoia,

What kind of offers did they have? I'm mainly looking for baby offers and childrens food / drink offers.

    Thanks in advance

    Yazzine :)

I had a quick look this morning and didn't see any baby/children's offers. There's Velvet, Finish, Persil, Fairy Flash, Budweiser, Wolf Blass wine plus a few other things but nothing of interest to me.

Hi,I'm very excited as we have just registered today to get membership at Costco!!
Am I right in thinking that we can go and start shopping straight away? We will bring the paperwork they asked for, ID etc, and the number from the registration.
Is there anything in particular I need to be aware of so that I don't make mistakes.........like really 'obvious' things that you guys all know about!!

Take your id to the membership counter, they will take your photo and issue your card straight away, and you can go in and spend all your money!
They take cash or debit cards - no credit cards. Not sure if they still take cheques, but suspect not. The branch we use (Oldham) has a cash machine by the checkouts if you need some cash.
At the tills your trolley has to go behind the cashier to the packing area, they get annoyed if you try to push it down the customer side of the belt.
Keep your receipt in your hand as you leave, there will be someone at the door who will check you haven't nicked anything and will initial your receipt.
    Happy shopping :)

You can now use an American Express credit card - I have TSB Duo that has both a Mastercard AND an American Express on the same account and I use it all the time

Well, we had our first experience of Costco yesterday. Managed to spend £90!!!!
I think it would take planning to get our money's worth really. We have been so used to eating Smart Price type things for so long, that some of the stuff seemed quite expensive. Definitely I can imagine before the likes of Christmas or Eid that it would be packed!
I think I would go in the future with a list so that I could plan exactly what I was going to buy, and would go without the kids!!!

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

A lot of things are more expensive at Costco and one problem is that they don't put prices online, so it isn't that easy to compare.

I find by bulk buying I only tend to go to supermarkets for my perishables & monthly to costco. It saves me time & money that way. (Oh yeah & without the bkids)!!;)
  • I am quite lucky in that I live a 5 minute drive from Costco, they seem expensive for meat (price wise) but the quality is fantastic, it never shrinks, you don't get lots of water coming out of it and the chicken breasts are so large when we do curries for DH, DD & me I only ever use 2 as one between DD and me is perfect (think they work out to about a £1 per chicken breast).

We also use it for bread, 2 white sliced loaves £1.69 and milk, 2 x 4 pints £1.65. Muller yogurts are cheap there £1.99 for 6 and the fruit is excellent quality.

We also buy toilet rolls and kitchen rolls when they are on offer (there are 2 teenage girls in the house and I swear they eat the stuff).

From the 9 - 29 April they have kitchen roll on offer, £10.78 (inc VAT and a saving of £3.20), that is for 20 kitchen rolls, working out at £0.54 per roll and it's Wipe and Clean Velvet. I haven't looked at the price in the supermarkets but sure it would be dearer.

Was looking at kitchen roll in Costco the other day - half of me said the sheets were so big, we actually waste it. the other half said it was still nearly as cheap as the own brands....

You will find that with any kind of shopping - food / clothes / shoes / household items if you have a list you are more likely to spend less. Your £90 was that on items that won't last atleast a month? if you bought the same items in the main supermarket times the amount you bought who would be cheaper? AND don't be harsh on yourself - many people go crazy on their first shop until the excitment goes down and then they do what you are doing working out where some things may be cheaper, how much they are willing to pay for the taste and quality etc.

We also use it for bread, 2 white sliced loaves £1.69 and milk, 2 x 4 pints £1.65. Muller yogurts are cheap there £1.99 for 6 and the fruit is excellent quality.

The muller corner are on offer for a £1 @ asda at the moment.

I cut through with a knife on one of the rolls (not all of them), so I only use half a sheet :o can't do that with own brands
