I can only echo the sentiments of everyone else. What a great show and terrific family. As it turns out this was definately the best. Dan was extremely talented. The Hotpods are retailing at £1750 each which means that 350 of them will bring in £612,500.00 (by applying the accumulator prinicple) !!! He did say that he could do 2 of these a week so he should raise approx £182,000.00 by the end of the year. You have to take into account the tax element but this family was definately onto a winner.

All that without mentioning Lucy's yoga business. That also has great potential, the website looks very promising and I wouldn't be surprised if that brought in a sizeable sum. If she brings out a book and a DVD on Iyengar yoga then I think that she'll also clear the mortgage in her own right.

I think that they have the potential to earn far more than their mortgage and maybe should have been on a show called "How to become a millionaire in 2 years" instead.

I guess we have to wait 12 months and see what happens. Out of all the shows I think that only 2 have a chance of doing it, this one and the Jewellery one. Who do you think will suceed?

so has anyone learnt how to pay of mortgage in 2 years?

Yes, but most of the people on here could of told you the same anyway!

    1. Minimise your outgoings

    2. Maximise your income

As for actual individual tips, can't think of any off hand but I am sure there are some.

I would pay £2000 for a hotpod if I got the number I want as he is only making 359 according to his website; not only hotpods here... he really is a talented blacksmith

Lucy has a Yoga site for booking her cottage and buying yoga stuff

This was great! I also smilled the whole way through, could not quite believe how loving and in touch the whole family were.

Something tells me the cottage bookings, and the hotpod orders will be on at least a 2 year waiting list now!

    Good luck to them!

I thought it was really good, and they were a lovely family, but can't help being a bit cinical...
I might have got the wrong end of the stick, but if we are going back to them in a year's time, surely the episode has given them free advertising? How many people watched last nights episode and thought 'I love those stoves and want one' and went onto his website to order one?
With a good idea and free advertising like that we could all pay our mortgage off in 2 years!!

I particularly loved how excited the kids were about simple things - like living in a caravan or shed..or the home-made birthday presents they got...can you imagine the tantrums the "average" kid would throw at being deprived of the latest PSP/xbox or whatever???? A fab, loving and down to earth family who thoroughly deserve to make it....in my opinion anyway!

Now....what undiscovered talent can I find to pay off my monster mortgage in 2 years......

    :-)

To a large extent you are right SnowPixie, the majority of the success is from the free advertising that they will have got from the show.

I think it is inspiration to everyone though, that this bloke was making his stoves and selling them to friends and family for £600 a time. Yet if he had thought more deeply about it and put a lot more effort in, there were people all over the UK who would happily pay a lot more than £600 for one of his creations.

Not saying it costs £600 to make, but the originals he was selling for £600 were made out of scrap and not as 'new' or quality as the 2g ones. He is now having to buy all the parts which would of course increase his initial outlay (which was £0).

And as for cynical, yeah, it's agreeable, but hey, thats what the prog was about really. giving the 'average Joe' a kick up the @rse and getting him going.

I know people have said before that the people on the show have 'hidden talents'. but I think if you look deeply then we all do. If you can't find one then look harder.

If you work in IT, then you can offer services locally ie support, PC building etc. If you are a paid electrician you can offer these services as self employed evening work. And vice versa to all of these. What almost everyone needs is a good kick, and push to get them to actually do it.

Your a stay at home Mum/Dad, what can you do??? Many things, cooking, cleaning, Childminding, Ironing, etc. - you have 3 young kids and havnt got the time to do any of these, well, maybe learn web design and offer these services locally, or friends to begin/practise with, then you can do it when time permits.

I'm not getting at ANYONE here at all, please don't take my post the wrong way, but all of these shows have one thing in common. All the presenter (motivational speaker) does, is give the candidate postitive thoughts and regular pushing. The people on the show who have done bad just can't live that way, and no matter how much they are instructed, they just won't listen. The people that will do well are the ones that listen.

In my eyes it IS as simple as that. A great inspirational show for all.

Exactly, but the point is that these two actually got themselves to the position where they had something to advertise when the show was screened so were able to take advantage of the free advertising. It just goes to show what a wasted opportunity it has been for the others on earlier programmes who didn't get their act together, or they too could have benefitted from the free advertising!

Absolutely! May I also add that people who do well are also likely to be "likeable" people who other people are more likely to help. Personality counts for far more than people give credit for. If those around you really like you, they will do more for you. There are far too many arrogant and aggressive people in business - they may get short term results but there is no long term goodwill being built. The successful businesses that I see tend to be "nice" people who have learned to be assertive rather than aggressive or nasty.
