Pay off your mortgage in 2 years - final episode

Options
Hi,

I don't know if there is a thread already about this one but felt that I had to put something on here.

I am talking about the final episode last night with the 'surfer' family.

I was really inspired by this programme and these people. They were not materialistic at all and seemed to have their values all sorted.

Even when things weren't going that well, they kept positive and cheerful and put their children first.

It did take a bit of persuading for them to put in some hard work into making this a success for them but I really admired them for their attitudes and approach to their family. Also they had some pretty creative ideas about living!! I really hope that they do well with this as they deserve it.

Did anyone else see this and what did you think?

  • I thought they were a fantastic family, completely scatty on money (paying £90 a month in bank and cc charges ) but their lifestyle and obvious love for each other showed so clearly that money isn't everything.

Have to throughly agree with you.

It was wonderful to see a family that said "family comes first at all costs". Personally, I would have struggled to live in a converted shed for 6 weeks in the summer, or want to live in a wood, but they seem to have a great time living.

It was also great because of the way the programme ended...their plan did seem achieveable. I really hope the stoves have sold successfully this year and that they do pay off the mortgage

I too thought they were a really lovely, entertaining family and it was good scheduling to have the last in the series on them, as even though they hadn't paid any off by the end of the first year the whole programme was much more positive than some of the recent episodes. I think it was inspiring to see you don't have to be a materialistic family to want to be debt and mortgage-free and own your home (and a woodland  )

I don't normally go in for that kind of art/design, but I thought the stoves were fantastic! :T

After complete drivel in the earlier episodes, I really enjoyed last night's episode. What lovely people. I really hope they manage it. Just goes to show that there are still "normal" people in the world who don't have to drink champagne every week nor pretend they're something they're not. It was so refreshing to see them just getting on with it. No tantrums, no tears, no indulging themselves when things get a bit hard. They were a real inspiration, especially the children who seemed delighted with the simple things in life. We need more people like that on the television instead of the usual cranks and crankpots that the producers pick for "reality" TV.

It's daft - on the face of it, they were the family least likely to suceed, but by the time the programme ended there was a real feeling that they might actually do it. And as everybody else said, they seemed so content and happy as a family, it was really sweet!

But they were in a very unusual situation - it seemed pretty obvious that before the programme the father had only been earning a fraction of what he could have been making if he had been really business minded, and there aren't very many of us out there who have a skill that could let us make a product as beautiful and with such a high value as the stoves he was making.

I though this was a really positive note to end the series on, this family showed that it is working as a family and not being overly materialistic that csn help you reach your goal. I know that if I gave my children a homemade present for their birthday, no matter how useful or creative they would have been disappointed and if I'd asked them to live in a converted shed for six weeks they would have cause blue murder. Though I dont consider my children overly spoilt I do acknowledge how materalistic and consumer oriented our lives seem compared to the couple last night.

I really hope they do pay off their mortgage :T .They have inspired me to look at the way myself and my family live our lives and hopefully that little bit of change will help use closer to paying our mortage of earlier

    Exactly!

Although I have no family at the moment, I hope that one day I am in a family situation like these people where each love and appreciate each other more than their material possessions. The children will grow up well behaved and appreciating the small things. It was a joy to watch them.

For once it was a family that realised that there was no point being debt free if you have no family/life for 2 years. It was clear that all ground work was complete and now things could happen quickly.

Really laughed though when it showed that they were not screening the shower off and the visitors to the house were going to get more of a view than expected!

This was one that I really hope they achieve their aim.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T
