My mum was telling me recently about a firm she worked for in the late 1960s.
It was a family-run company that made swimwear/underwear.
The boss was unbelievably tight and used to bring in piles of his female relatives' knickers so that the machinists could replace the gussets when they'd worn out!
That really is money saving!0 -

I don't understand why but I have read it a number of times. If I can find an explanation I'll post it.
I'm sure you're right ! I have noticed this myself with my own car!:money:Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Regarding the turning the engine off whilst going down hill, this isn't necessary
Most modern cars with injection engines actually cut off the fuel supply whilst going downhill or decelerating
As long as the car is not coasting (ie as long as it's in any gear) and is still moving (ie downhill or slowing down coming upto a set of lights), it won't be using any petrol.
Only when you accelerate or coast will the engine require petrol again
I've also heard it's better to fill the tank completely, because it reduces the amount of empty space in the tank which will mean less fuel can evaporate. Don't quote me on that! But it makes senseI fill up everytime, as it means less time spent filling up with petrol and saving money on trips to the petrol station.
Brilliant thread by the way0 -
I must say I am quite frankly shocked at the scatalogical aspect of this whole thread :-| Nicking the odd loo roll from work every now and again (guilty) is one thing but artificially co-ordinating ones output to coincide with the cheapest disposal mechanism seems a little unhealthy TBH :-\ Seriously, the chances of getting bowel cancer and the like must be increased by doing unnatural things like that. I hope y'all weigh the pros and cons for a little moneysaving vs. your health.
A much better thing to do would be to fill up a small sealed container with water and placing this in your toilet, so on a complete flush you don't use as much water. Anglian Water were giving them away from free, called a Freddie Frog, but anything like a small milk bottle would do.
I scrimp more than normal by not putting stamps on anything non important that's business bound (they will pickup the tab for it, never had anything go missing), doing my washing, drying and ironing between midnight and 4 am usually, and I argue for discounts with absolutely everyone that tries to sell me something, much to the total annoyance of everybody that I know

I persisted for 9 months before reverting back to the pill. Have friends who have had the desired effect tho.
