  • As a bird myself, the only problem that I can see with looking now is that if she finds her dream house and you can afford it easily she is not going to be a happy bunny if you refuse to buy it on the basis that it will get cheaper in a year or so.

Don't go looking unless you are prepared to buy now. Otherwise you will only get her hopes up. God help you if you don't let her buy her dream home and then when the market has bottomed out you can't find anything she likes as much/get outbid by others.

How about building your own house instead of buying? (That's what we're doing - currently STR & nearing end of build)

No decent land in the area . There is one plot for a decent sized detached house but he wants £250K for it ?

Just out of interest (ok I am being nosey), I see your name being dorsetjohn, I assume the area you are talking about is Dorset?

    Which part of it?

Only ask because I love Dorset and spent very many happy years going on holiday there and my dream is to have a lovely little place down there. My area of choice would be from Lyme Regis through to Dorchester but preferably on the coast line....Bridport/Burton Bradstock/West Bay being my particular favourites.

You can tell me off for going off topic if you like.....I just love the place. :T
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Ahh yes, many many times we did the coastal road from our camp site near Burton Bradstock over to Weymouth...often in the fog!

Well if I get my way, then we can all be neighbours!

We spent twenty years going to a camp site between Bridport and Burton Bradstock, with our main shopping being done in Bridport. I would love to go back for a holiday but alas the prices have increased out of my budget although each year I say "This year we will go back".

I expect a fair amount has changed since we last visited back in 2002...but also a fair amount would still be the same.

Oi! Stop putting claims on Dorset, you'll create a mini-boom and make it expensive for everyone...that's not very MoneySaving...!

    (no vested interest, honest:o )
  • If she is not responding to rational argument it's likely her nesting instinct is shortcircuiting her brain and she is being led by her emotions.

So you could try tapping into that. Say 'I want us to have our own home, our own little nest with roses round the door the patter of tiny feet bla bla bla (get her all misty eyed) but then pop that nice bubble with a nasty emotional image, eg, say 'the problem is if we buy now while prices still have a lot to fall, we'll lose out on a lot of money; we'll be liable to have a much worse house, less disposable cash to send little johnny to a good school or get that nice red car you wanted, and even worse we might get repossessed with all the neighbours watching and laughing at us'.

Push the right emotional buttons and you'll be fine.
'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp
