Look mate, John, whatever, you need to get yourself some cajones

Your the man, she's the bird, you tell her financial stuff is mann stuff and to get back to her cleaning;)

    That should sort it :D
You can't win an argument with a stupid person.

I'm dyslexic ie I can't be @rsed to check for typos
  • egg money give 4% and thats instant, you might be able to get better then 2.5%

You should do it by the numbers and compare the cost of the mortgage payments vs renting.
If renting is much cheaper then it doesnt really make sense and you know how others will also act most likely.

Once it gets anywhere close to having a mortgage (ie. long term cost not our current silly rates, so use a 10 year fix to work it out) as cheap as renting, ie. well worth it then the market will turn and you'd be silly to pay a landlord when you have the wealth to easily pick and choose

Cash will not always be the best place to put your wealth.
Over the (very) long term wealth in a house is a better idea in order to avoid inflation, etc

will look at the egg account , thanks

Can't you give her a couple of hundred quid to buy a handbag? That should take her mind off buying houses for a while ;)

Cake decorating classes? Decorates the cake rather than a house.... plus you get cake.

She has only just joined Fat Club a couple of weeks ago , so what she goes without so must I
  • What's the choice - possibly making some money - or indeed possibly mistiming it and losing some money?

    Or a happy wife?

    I know which I'd choose....
Who's going to fly your plane? / When you need to make your getaway....

    Hello everyone

My wife is doing my head in about wanting to buy a house in the near future
We are renting a nice detached house in a nice area with a 1/2 acre back garden

We are living on the Dorset coast , We have £170K in the bank after a recent house sale

Now the problem is that she wants her own home , which I can appreciate that . But when I try to explain to her the benefits of WAITING to buy a house over her need to own right now , it causes an argument with her saying " But house prices arent dropping down here " or " Theres an awful lot of houses being sold on right move "

We are in such a good position , nothing to sell , £170K in bank , but I dont think she trusts my judgement

Could some of you please tell her her Halfwit husband (me) is doing something right for once

    Thanks in advance

Sorry not to agree with you but where I live more houses are selling recently and prices are certainly not falling:p not going up any but have certainly levelled out

John , I would offer her a compromise is if she waits until the end of the year. (A nice holiday of her choosing maybe )

Perhaps you could show her some price comparisons of from April 2008 until now, so she can see how much prices have come down in some areas. Also there was a item here , that made some sence...Fast forward to the 1st item after the news at one .http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00j8wlz

It does depend on area though , and thats where you have to show some caution :)
