Edited to add: given that your wife has had to follow you round the world while you were still in the armed forces, living in crap military accommodation, never having anywhere to put her own style to, moving on just when you had got to know the neighbours - it is very hard on a woman, all that - I think that you owe her, actually.[/quote]
My wife is from weymouth and I moved here over 20 years ago based at the Royal Naval air Station . We never lived in military accomodationand have always owned our own house for over 18 years . On the rare occasions I had to go work a Flight Deck at sea , she stayed at home ( glad of the peace ! )
So no , I owe her nothing ( as Bros said ! )0 -
If I were you I would just hope that no one points your wife in the direction of this thread!
I agree with Conrad.......money is not everything. If your wife has moved constantly with your job maybe she is craving security, and roots,what price that?
She hasnt moved anywhere , read post above please0 -

I mean, you may have your money spread across three banks that are all owned by the one same institution (especially nowadays), so you would receive (if you received) only one lot of £50K. There is a list somewhere on the web of which banks are owned by which institutions.
Thats not always true, RBS and Natwest are separate with 50k each however RBS took over Natwest a while back and their shares famously fell to a grand worth of 10p a share recently
should be a proper list on mse front page I think0 -
on the other hand clowns plans may include further devaluation of the pound and the OP's savings may not buy him what it may now.0

pretty sure that egg aren't accepting new customers for their egg money card - it's an account with a credit card that pays 4% if you're in the black and charges 6.9% (i think) if you're in the red.
i've got one, and i wouldn't put £170k on it - it's not particularly simple to move the money to another account. also, i can't help thinking that it's not a wise move to have a large cash sum that can be extracted on a credit card. i know that theoretically if you are the victim of card fraud you get your money back - but i can see the bank fighting a lot harder if it's a £170k card fraud - worth their while to try to prove you were negligent.0 -

However,despite that fact,you do owe your wife something.......the courtesy of not posting what could be deemed dismissive or patronising posts about her on an open forum. You need to sit down and find out why she feels such a need to own a property rather than rent,approached correctly a compromise date for buying should be possible.0 -
:rolleyes: :rolleyes:Sorry,that will teach me to draw conclusions from the posts of others!:o

Only I can judge if I owe my wife anything :rolleyes:0 -
What you haven't said is what kind of security you have in your current rented place. It's all very well having half an acre, but if you can't plant anything with the security that you'll still be there when it comes up, it's kind of pointless.
PS. At the risk of being snidey, the thanks for OP's post above was accidental. I meant to thank the one above it.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -

Well, you've corrected that bit. However, I don't mind telling you that if my other half disloyally announced on a web forum (as you have) that I had joined the Fat Club, he wouldn't be getting any for several weeks. If then.YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)0
