Totally agree with you.
Just remember, though, many people are in the same boat and there is help available that needn't cost you one penny.
It's just a pity that the Debt Counselling Charities don't have the resources for the 'glitzy' advertising that the profit-driven 'companies do.
The answer to 'debt' problems lies not in any 'Quick Fix' promise to get debts written off through possible technicalities in the original agreement, but in 'Dealing with those Debts' in the way most appropriate to your own circumstances.
There are many ways of dealing with debt, although not all solutions will be attractive to these so called 'Debt Write-off' companies as most viable solutions do not carry the 'profit' element, without which these 'vultures' simply can not survive.
But it is good to know that not everybody sees your debt as a 'commodity' and that some people offer advice simply because they care about the way 'debtors' are being ripped off.
So, and at the risk of repeating myself, yet again , if anyone finds themselves in trouble with credit card debt (or any other debt, come to that) - before succumbing to any 'dubious promise' by these companies, please contact one of the following Debt Counselling Charities for free, professional and impartial advice:- CCCS - www.cccs.co.uk - tel 0800 138 1111
- National Debtline - www.nationaldebtline.co.uk - tel. 0808 808 4000

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

All these companies might be able to do (or you might be able to do yourself) is make the debts unenforceable through the courts.
While this may put you in the position where you don't have to pay them back, the debts don't get 'wiped' out since they remain on your credit report for other creditors to see. i.e. it'll trash your credit rating for 6 years.

Obviously we have to be very careful when talking about the company mentioned in the advertising standards report as they have threatened the board with legal action in the past. So, I will just stick to observations.
1 - Clearly the claims being made by them were false. Hence the outcome
2 - Why couldnt they provide any evidence of successes they have had themselves? - perhaps there is none
3 - even when they used evidence from external sources, they could only supply a limited numberI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

True, bat - but, on a point of interest, the OFT are definitely getting their act together with 'Debt Management Companies' who mislead debtors into believing that they can get their debts written off - whilst the following is directed, mainly, at Companies who 'cold-call' debtors to advertise their 'services' I firmly believe that it, or at least the spirit of it, applies equally to 'companies' that say they can write off credit card debt:

This forum has been a godsend to me as the last 9 months have been pretty tough to say the least. I lost my job in August following the liquidation of the company I worked for and a resultant fraud and regulatory investigation following the alleged 'improper' behaviour / actions of my principles. Unfortunately, as I was a director of one company within the group, I have been embroiled in all of the !!!! which goes with it and am struggling to find employment to support my wife and two young children. I have made every effort to try and pay my debts, but now can go on no more. I noticed that some people are possibly using your fantastic ideas to avoid debt because they maybe don't want to pay, but I am definitely in the can't pay. I have lost everything and due to legal fees, being stuffed by the company I worked for etc, etc, etc, I am circa £120K in debt.
I am looking at my credit card accounts and, if they have possible not abided by the law in terms of the CCAs, then it would help my situation if I can avoid the payment / defaults etc. if any of these are unenforceable.
I have been chasing AMEX since January for a copy of my CCA; they sent me a ltr saying I applied on line and therefore do not have the application form. I called them three or four times to reiterate what I originally asked for. They have failed to send me the original CCA, lastly sending me a copy of their standard T&Cs. I am using your ltr to formally request this so tank you.
Halifax however have sent me a CCA, but I am not sure of whether the Credit Limit issue is stated correctly. They say "We will decide the credit limit and tell you what it is. We may change it at any time and will let you know about any change." Is this in compliance with the Consumer Credit Act 1974?????? It is not clear.
Sorry for the long request for help but I am stuck and would very much appreciate any help anyone can give. Cheers.0
