Not read whole thread either, but found evidence of mice a week before Xmas. (Chewed potatoes, droppings near skirting in kitchen).

Bought 4 "snapper" traps and baited with Chocolate Orange (a terrible waste imho).

Next day, 3 traps still set with chocolate pinched and another set off with no chocolate left. No mice anywhere. (No, I didn't go on a midnight raid!!).

So we got a pest control guy in who left bait - and my wife/kids had the ideal chance to purchase a new cat - great.

Ever since, no sign of mice (but I can't get near the PC as the cat jumps on the keyboard - pay off?). Pest guy is back on Thursday to have a good look round and get under the floors and remove any of the blighters.

One thing - he said keeping the place spotless helps to see evidence of them - a dirtier house means it's harder to spot evidence of them. (Luckier my wife is obsessive about cleanliness!).

    Good luck all!

Not read the whole thread so it's probably been mentioned before but I personally wouldn't bother with humane traps just stick with the tried and tested old style ones which kill them. I don't know if this is true or not but I think you have to release mice some distance away from your property otherwise they just come back again.

On what to bait the trap with we had success with peanut butter

    At least 1km apparently.....

I know killing them would be more effective but I just hate the idea, we love animals. I could probably bring myself to kill a rat though! We will drive them a long way away.

Correct in ensuring no food is laying about or crumbs on floors, however dust/dirt and cobwebs actually help us identify their route, as disturbance in dust normally leaves paw marks and cobwebs show that no activity passes through there.

Not that I'm now telling everyone to let their home get dirty, just that in loft areas, where people don't normally clean and mice/rats like to hide, it helps us to know where to drop the poison.

My dog has been going mental every time she goes into the garage. Couldn't see any dropping. Well yesterday took dog and DH to the garage to give it a good clear out. Pulled an old side board out and behind it loads of droppings and a hairy fluffy nest, doggy very happy, me    . DH not very amused as I was refusing to move anything else!! Anyway not very money saving but I called the council, didn't care how much they can come and get rid of the mice. 43.00 well spend.
We now have a lovely clean and tidy garage, all the dog food has been put in large plastic container. The man has been and put down the poison. Thank god the garage is detatched from the house. .

I found mouse droppings in the pan warming drawer at the bottom of the cooker  and in the bedrooms. (I obviously made a fuss, possibly over the top, but all my cooking pans were there, the thought just makes me gag). DH put a Little Nipper trap in the pan drawer and a humane one in DS room and Little Nippers elsewhere. So far the little blighters have eaten three loads of peanut butter from the pan drawer and none of the others have been touched. Last night DH tried fruit pastiles/gums (I think the guy in the shop suggested it, as they can't pull them off), this seemed to work as one was caught last night in the pan drawer (thank god DH was there to deal with it, I'm too squeemish, as it is I'm a veggie and feel rotten about killing any animal, but it's just too much), but no sign elsewhere.

Sorry to waffle. Do you think there will be more than one? How long should we keep bating traps?

Well I will be on the lookout forever!!! I expect there is more than one in our garage otherwise it is one mouse with very bad case if irritable bowel!! Dog food is now in plastic grates with lockable lids. I am only going in to the garage in daylight but will sent the dog first just in case. Hopefully now the bait is down they will go off and die somewhere else rather than near my home. Need to sort the rafters in the garage next full of rubbish. Will allocate OH I think my back pain is just to bad to be doing that;)

Hello there everyone in this forum
I and my family moved to the current propery 4 years ago. We did a loft and a new kitchen last summer. Till then we had no idea that there were mouse residing underneath the floorboard.
From the day the builders left I have seen mouse droppings in the kitchen and under the stairs where the gas meter is. I have managed to catch 2-3 so far. I have used glue traps from Amazon.and a simple trap I bought from Robert Dyas. There was no sign for a couple of months but now I see the mouse droppings againg although I have seen no mouse yet. Put the trap under the kitchen sink with chocoloate they don't touch it. They seem to outsmart me now. I am getting really desperate. I am tempted to get this Sonic device from Primrose. I am not sure it will work. I don't care if is a humane or inhumane method I JUST WANT TO GET RID OF THEM. So any strong poison or any other advice will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Ken

Bait boxes and glue traps. I never found mousetraps effective.
