Hi Nesssie - your right. They will come to help, but they do charge for bringing traps or laying poison.
In the end it was cheaper to get my own traps.
A few times I found the mice had managed to get the food without setting them off too.
I found peanut butter worked well - as they cant pull it off the spike on the trap. French fries also worked when I chopped a little off the end and stuck it on the spike.
I tried a humane trap once too. I'd baited it with some ham before I left for work, and when I got home the trap had closed. I was convinced there was something inside, as when I shook it slightly something moved. So I quickly took the trap outside and prepared myself to run once I'd let the blighter go. However, I emptied the trap and all that came out was the bit of ham, which had dried out - that was what I had heard "moving" inside. :rotfl:Looking forward to the future.0 -
We have just discovered mice in our house for the first time last night. Not noticed anything has been gnawed through yet ... just spotted them peering their snout from some dark corners. Any idea of the cheapest and most effective ways of getting rid of them quickly and permanently?
Thanks in advance0 -

I walked into the kitchen yesterday and saw a black rat/mouse move towards our bin in the kitchen, it came from the utility room.
Now what can I do to get rid of them?
Should I buy the rat poison and leave it around or buy traps? How much should I buy and how long does it take to do the trick?
Is there anything else that I should do?
Do I need to tell the council?
All help appreciated.
I hope you werent listening to the radio at the Same time it happened and UB40's Rat in me Kitchen came on cos that wouldve been Priceless!:rotfl:

We have just discovered we have mice YUCK!! We havent actually seen them but on Monday morning found cake all over the floor (my hubby swears it wasn't him as he does have a tendency for midnight snacks!). We packed all food away, shut all the doors and blocked as many holes as we could but this morning found the naughty things had chewed away a portion of the draught excluder under the lounge door so they could get through!
Am really freaked out by it, hate the thought of them scavenging around while we're asleep! any advise appreciated.
I have ordered a humane trap and we are going to bait it with Snickers as apparently they love it. will see if it catches anything.0 -
Not read the whole thread so it's probably been mentioned before but I personally wouldn't bother with humane traps just stick with the tried and tested old style ones which kill them. I don't know if this is true or not but I think you have to release mice some distance away from your property otherwise they just come back again.
On what to bait the trap with we had success with peanut butter0
