  • Hi pbfhpunk, where did you get the revolver traps from?, I think if push comes to shove, I may just have to try them, as long as I cannot see or have to touch it I may be ok.
One of my plug-in devices is also a primrose thing and i'm really putting all hope on that doing the trick along with the two other devices that my pal sent me. I really am a nervous wreck. May have to resort to getting a cute and cuddly Tom-Cat if all else fails. I did read somewhere on the net that you can get something called Red fox urine, its dried discs of fox urine, that is s'posed to send them packing, as Foxes are their natural predator....not sure if we can smell it though, wouldnt fancy that really but if it does the job, I would be more than willing to give it a go. I have declared all out war on the little blighters!.

Odd how people are squeamish about pests that they can kill themselves but not about the burgers or chicken portions they handle from the supermarket

I've caught several rats in my traps but had to swap them for poison as they also caught a robin and wood pigeon last week. Wood pigeons are pests too, but the poor robin just didn't deserve it!
Signature on holiday for two weeks
  • Mutton Geoff, Believe me, I would be squeamish about burgers and chicken too, however as both my son and I are vegetarian, that is never an issue with us.
You're right, poor little Robin didnt deserve it, isn't it bad luck to kill a Robin??

Sorry only just seen your reply you can get them from Maplin
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=222650&ForceUpdate=Y

But they've been out of stock for a while I got mine from ebay. Not sure if it was this guy but there's loads if you do a search
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STV-REVOLVER-MOUSE-TRAP-TWINPACK_W0QQitemZ370121392602QQihZ024QQcategoryZ75581QQcmdZViewItem

Origianlly we shop bought some from the place we get our chickens so if yo uhave a local country stores they might do them. They are really good, simple to use, so if you're squeamish they're great.

Also bad news is if you've got one there's probably more, best to get at least two traps and just leaves them down maybe replace the bait.

    Hell yeah!!
  • No Problem Pbfhpunk, I actually did a search online for them. I think I looked at the Maplin site but the minimum order was £25 so i decided against that for now, didnt want to buy loads if they dont suit me. I managed to find them on ebay, i ordered two packs, two in each, if they are ok, will order more.....lots more!!. lol!!

I dont know what the country stores are to be honest, I am in Northern Ireland so we dont have that I dont think. Ah well, at least I know I can get them from ebay for the timebeing.
Didnt hear any activity last night :j and only minimal the night before, heres hoping that my little gadgets are doing the trick.

Many thanks for your help, if you come up with any other helpful tips, please feel free to share them.

Hope your little visitors are not outstaying their welcome!!.
  • ok, its nto a black rat, its a brown rat or a mouse
    assuming its a rat
do it yourelf. the council will come out and go through the motions most likely. they will leave poison and come back in a week. you can do it quicker and better.
get some traps, put a sausage in the microwave and use that as bait. alternatively find what the rat is eating and use that as bait on the trap.
use a few traps 5 or 6 dont be shy. be prepared for the rat avoiding your traps for a few days to to their neophobic reponse - fear of new items in their environment.
find the hole its using and seal it once you have caught it on a trap.
if its a mouse, similar thing, get some traps but use chocolate or peanuts.
dont be afraid. there more frightened of you. your much bigger than them.
  • Hi Bishbash55, its definitely mice, not rats.

I haven't heard any activity for 3 nights now and my neighbour along the row had empty traps yesterday morning so heres hoping that we have nipped it in the bud.

I received my revolving traps today so will get my neighbour to stick them in the loft for me. Hoping that the little Mouseys have packed up and moved on though.

Did call the housing executive out on wednesday but so far no sign of them so I suspect you're right, it can be done better and definitely quicker ourselves if we all (neighbours) work together.

I appreciate what you're saying that they're more afraid of us but they just really freak me out. To be honest though, I was starting to feel a little guilty yeaterday, the weather was terrible and all they want is a safe place to raise their young and here I was planning all kinds of ways to get rid!!. :rotfl:

I think I need to toughen up a bit!!
    Thanks for the reply!.

It's cold - all the wee meeces and bigger rats are looking for somewhere warm and cosy just now and our houses are just the ticket for them!

Hate to say it, but mice and rats do get used to the noise coming off the plug in units..... As they're creatures of habit, once they get used to it, they'll quite happily go back into that space or premises.

Babs2008 - are you sure that City of Edinburgh don't help? They do have a pest control section and used to come out free of charge. They may charge, but you could always ask them for advice first.

Nessie1702.........wee meeces are bad enough but the thought of bigger rats looking for room at the inn is too much to bear !!
