Just a quick update to my earlier post on here about AVs.
I've taken the advice given and installed Avira Personal v9.
Uninstallation of Avast was easy (using Avast's own uninstaller, downloadable from Avast's website.)
Impressions so far: um, impressive. Avira seems to load much, much quicker than Avast did. The UI is much superior. The auto-24 hour update works fine. Scanning seems considerably faster. And it doesn't seem to impact on resources as heavily as Avast did.
Early days, I know, but Avira (latest free version) seems pretty darned good to me, so thanks to everyone here who high-lighted it. The case for anyone forking out good money for something like McAfee seems more groundless than ever.0 -
Avira is far and away the best free av solution
Id still suggest regular scans with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot though:idea:0
