So is there a Free version of AVIRA? if I have to pay anything I am staying with AVG. I don't get virus's anyway as I am sensible enough and know what I am doing with a computer, its just nice to know its there to scan the occasional suspect download.
Percy: I'll always be grateful to AVG for the standard it set back in the days when freeware alternatives to commercial AVs were pretty carp.
But nothing stays the same, and the recommendations made on this thread for Avira's Personal (i.e., freeware) AV are worth following up.
You've nothing to lose by trying out Avira; if you like it, keep it. If you don't, then uninstall and go back to AVG.
As a confirmed Avast AV user, even I'm thinking of switching over to Avira: its new build, and superior UI (Avast's is dire) make me think the time has come to change. Or try a change, at any rate.
* PS: uninstalling any AV can be time-consuming so check Google for appropriate references -- even Revo doesn't catch everything.0 -
lol....I've see that one before I think.Almost started the obvious there Marty however to clear things up I'm not a linux nerd. I am however a cheapskate and linux is free, and I like to be secure and linux is that too - two birds one stone and all that.
Anyway heres a video that makes more sense:

Printed anything lately?
I actually like Linux a lot. It doesn't have the software I need though, and I actually prefer Mac OS X, so that's why I use it.

Avira AntiVir would certainly be my choice for a free AV, thought I haven't used Avast in awhile. Avira seems to do better in tests though.0 -
Marty:
The only reason I'm still with Avast is because I read -- somewhere! -- that it auto-updates more frequently than Avira. Very likely another Internet heresy. . .
(And auto-updating an app which doesn't have as comprehensive a definitions list as a rival isn't any consolation, either.)0 -
Well well they do open source too. Excellent but its everyones now! Anyway I found this one which tickled me a little:

Well thats garbage for 2 reasons.
1 ~ you can set Avira to update whenever you like
2 ~ its not only how often but whats ACTUALLY updated
ie Avast might update with +1 definition every hour say. Avira update +100 defs a day which would make Avira far better (Im not saying they do, its just a possible example):idea:0 -

I knew Mac OS was a !!!!!!!ised version of BSD with proprietary software infecting it. Well theyve some sense because opensource is the way forward, now all they need to do is drop prices on their hardware.0 -
Well I'll not argue with that. I've never liked dell. I wouldn't buy a macbook air either, that really is a gimmick even you must admit that and its not the thinnest notebook ever. Pedion anyone? Probably not cos it was rubbish too.0
