Agree with Tozer.
Go back to Argos, (don't phone!) don't get into the details of who you spoke to and what they said, you said. You bought a laptop, it's not working properly, you are rejecting it as it your statutory right under SOGA 79, please refund. (or you might be willing to accept a replacement) You'll probably need to get the manager to deal with.0 -
Hi,
But before taking it back, I would try a system restore - maybe Vista was doing an update, when it crashed - which really confuses it .... I have had this happen to me - the whole PC wouldn't work, yet after system restore to point before - all ok.
But if not happy to do that & tech line doesn't help - yes take back - demand new / refund.

First of all Argos clearly do not know what they are talking about, you do not need to go out and buy a Vista DVD,that's ridiculous.Did the Fujitsu tech line not give you hints on recovery options???
As another poster suggested,I'd perform a system restore back to the last restore point or even before that.
If that works make sure you have up to date Virus protection etc.
If that doesn't work.....
To restore the laptop to factory condition press F8 at boot up and select 'advanced boot options' then 'repair your computer, this should boot into the recovery partition. It will wipe your C drive and reinstall windows.0 -
Sorry here's the full instructions..doh at me for being blonde!!!

2.. Select Repair your Computer.
3.. Select keyboard layout.

Thanks so far the model number is
Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo Mobile V55350 -
Did you but on line or in the store? And did you use your credit card to Buy?
Either option provides you with better protection than if you brought over the counter and with Cash or debit card.
Most computers require you to make a recovery dvd before you start, however very few issue you with the blank dvd to do so! If the user is a novice then I would expect the retailer to be sympathetic and repair the software.
Have spoken to our IT guru at work and he says that you can reboot from any vista cd (as long as its the same version) so you can use a friends if they have one. He also says that the having a recovery cd would not have stopped the fault from happening in the first place, it would only give you the opportunity to reload the drivers etc. So would suggest that the fault is the fault and nothing to do with what you have done or not done!
Call Argos and demand a replacement. The machine or software they provided is faulty. By the way you have already purchased Windows Vista when you bought the computer so you do not have to buy it again!!!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

I bought the laptop online using a store card.
I bought it for my husband who is a complete novice he didn't even know what a recovery disc is.
I will scout around my fireinds ot see if they have vista. As I sadi to Argos even if I had made the recovey disc that may have been faulty if the software is faulty in the first place, The man at Fijitsu just said to me sounds like Vista was currpot go out and buy a new version! Thats mad!0 -

You will not be licensed to use somebody else's Vista in your machine and could invalidate the warranty by using unlicensed software.
Just take the darn thing back and insist on a refund / replacement.0 -
Yep. Especially as there is a strong chance that even if you manage to sort it, it will happen again and then it will be even harder to get redress.0

If you use someones elses vista disc when it asks for reg key you use the key quoted on the sticker on the laptop or in the info pack. This will validate the software with the licence you bought with your laptop.
But I personally would take it back and demand a replacement or refund. It is faulty goods bought by distance selling!!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0
