Debate House Prices

In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

I am just wondering what level you require a thread to descend to before taking action such as locking it or removing/editing posts?

WADR I don't think you're cut out for this job, and from the lack of input by your colleague divadee, her as well...

It's a classic dilemma for moderators or BGs of Internet boards - delete something and half of the argument leaps down your throat, don't delete it and the other half of the argument leaps down your throat. Why anyone expects Misskool and Divadee to engage in discussions is beyond me.

The fact is it's the board users who should behave, and it's not for BGs to clean things up, but sadly for people who do have basic good manners and want to interact pleasantly, internet forums do attract the self important like wasps are attracted to jam.

    No worries Snooze.....

I can actually be unsensitive and neutral...I have to in my role as owner and administrator of my own site, even though my loyalties put to the test, I always ensure I am completely neutral.

What you see of me here, is someone who has not got that responsibility, so I can be myself.

Actually I am quite relieved you posted that! I felt a little awkward trying to find reasons to wriggle out of it.

Thanks for the nomination Miss Moneypenny but I really wouldn't have the time with my studies, the children and my already very heavy online responsibilities.

    Hi folks,

Just to give prior info. Im considering moving this board i(still as a seperate main board) nto the MoneySavers arms near discussion time.

    --- Abridged version ---

Argh!! No!! First I hear that MSE is considering moving my beloved Pensions board out of Pure Money, then I hear that you're considering turning the MFW board into a sub-board and now this! It's like a Vendetta against me! :D

This board has grown from a single thread on the Housing board, which became so popular that it was moved into a sub-board, which in turn evolved into a Main board on the forum. It would be a complete backward step to now move it back into being a sub-board.

I have absolutely nothing against the Discussion Time and The Money Savers Arms, but these are areas of general discussion, while this board focuses completely on financial topics. As such, it belongs in the Pure Money section of MSE with the rest of the financially related boards.

While stronger moderation is required, let's not 'throw the baby out with the bathwater' here. Root out the trouble makers, and I don't mean people who have financial disagreements, but the ones who just set out to disrupt/wreck threads where they don't agree with the subject matter. If you want examples of this, please visit my thread on fixed interest rate mortgages. Some people hate the thought of other people buying a house (Lord knows why, it makes no difference to them if someone buys a house or not) and so made purile comments to wreck the thread.

If you have a short period of active moderation on this board, you'll soon see who are the people who actually participate in discussions and who are the ones who make one line comments designed to frustrate and annoy. Once we are rid of these we can get back to talking about the economy and other financial matters.

    Cheers. :)

p.s. While you're at it, can you also make sure the Pensions stays in Pure Money and that the MFW stays as a main board. :D

BGs are guides, not moderators, and Divadee explained that they can't PPR people anyway. Martin said earlier in the thread that he and the team were monitoring the thread.

If you don't want the BGs to be walked over, stop walking.

Nope not really, just don't have the time and it is true I can get over emotional and involved at times.

Far easier to be neutral about sport and numbers, not quite so easy when it comes to people and their lives.

If this topic had been posted last week, I would have missed it completely as I was barely here!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I just had a thought....ignoring all the sockpuppet banter....the board changed when it was renamed and I like the variety at first....I could get to natter about retail etc for one.

It was the political stuff that changed it the most....drives me up the wall TBH.

The politics seems to seep into every thread too...then the rascist stuff...should be deleted straight away IMO.

Perhaps Martin could plonk the political debate into it's own board all the way down the bottom of the page.

He could also create a Racist board, just for Dervish.

The funniest thing about Dervish was the thread about being unwelcome in Cornwall because she/he was a 'furrriner'.....I didn't get to follow the thread...too busy doing work rersearch with an OK magazine....all very lifesaving essential work.
It gets too tiring to keep posting the other view on those type of threads TBH. Even Cleaver got fed up with it in the end IFIRC.
