I second that. On this thread my name was dragged in by one regular (some one who would not let me have my own point of veiw:rolleyes: ) saying I just logged on and insulted people.(OK I called wookster a tyke once but he deserved it:);) )
If offering a different view is insulting this board is pointless. It may as well be split in to two.
On side where everyone agrees and one side where people discuss without getting personal or offensive.0 -
I was out yesterday when this thread was first started. Having started with the view that the board should stay where it is I read through to the end and having spent the best part of two hours reading, by the end I could see Martin's point. I didn't get to the end of my reading until 11.45pm and by that time there were a lot of sockpuppets conversing with each other. Even more weirdly (I don't get the sock puppet thing though do occasionally find it amusing) they could all be one person for all I know.
My view has now changed. It doesn't matter where we end up, I'll go with the flow. If we end up in the Arms, so be it. If it changes the flavour, well the flavour has changed already - not only in splitting out the single thread into its own sub-board, but by becoming a main board and since its been its own board. It has evolved into a strange but interesting beast over time.
Would I prefer it to be where it is - probably yes - but I'd also prefer it if the likes of NDG returned. I'll just be sad if more of the insightful posters get driven away, that to me is way more important than where the board is actually sited. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I dont think moving it will bring the 'likes of NDG' back. I think tackling the problems might(I miss NDG's posts a lot.:()

I don't think NDG will come back either lir, more's the pity, my concern is that good people are leaving. As you say, that's about tackling the problems. IMO that's more important than where we are, or in six months time we'll have lost a damn good forum and it will be occupied by a couple of sockies, a few racists and a couple of people who drink a bit too much of an evening and spout abuse at anyone who's left. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I really detest people who feign innocence.
Most of the posters on this thread have at some point been victims of 'minor abuse'... but also have been the ones giving abuse too...
Me included.... the board repeats the same old content... because its inevitable now... the crash, the recession.. it was fun when everyone said 'no theres no recession', 'no theres no hpc'.... but when everyone sings the same song it gets a bit bland.0 -
Is it safe to enter ? ..0

The SPs I am fed up with are the same two (maybe three?) posters who are almost always just there to pick an arguement, get personal and then thank themselves and their AEs in order to make it look like everyone agrees with them. These posters are almost always just nasty, trouble making and vindictive - they have a problem with one or two posters and jump on every post they make.
Moving the board will probably end up simply a big step backwards, with everyone once again posting on the 'buying, selling and renting' board.0 -

I agree, but I'd go a step further and sy that I think it might discourage new posters to be in the virtual pub, as great as that is at what it is, I think it is the wrong place for this type of discussion and the kind of posters we have lost, for the reasons I raised earlier in this mammoth thread.0 -
The issues being complained about are common to almost all internet fora and message boards, and certainly to those where free discussion of subjects like politics occurs. Multiple identities, trolling, stalking, and cyber-bullying are all inevitabilities. It stems from the fact that people are far less inhibited on the internet and tend to state what they normally only think. For example I usually steer clear of politics and religion in normal social conversation, but not on the internet. Coupled with that is the fact that many of the intellectually-challenged have a problem in coping with disagreement without resorting to invective, spite, and personalisation -- I guess that's part of what makes them intellectually challenged. The last refuge of the lost argument is to start attacking the poster concerned. Only very stringent moderation can prevent this. But that takes resources and also can make a board very sterile. Yes, the solution is for everyone to behave in an intelligent, civilised, reasonable, and considerate manner all of the time. But then if people behaved like that all of the time, it would solve most of the world's problems, wouldn't it.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

I Agree I think SteveJ, Chucky, Dan and I etc all get called sock puppets of each other though.
But I Really don't see any of us being nasty or trouble making we just have big problems getting our point across because of the mountain of bears wanting to "have a go" or being "them against us"
I have been accused as being "one of those" posters on this thread (along with the mentioned above).
It confuses me to who the posters are I can think of two or three who are nasty when you disagree with what they say.
Not sure they are the same as your two or three though.;)0
