I just had a thought....ignoring all the sockpuppet banter....the board changed when it was renamed and I like the variety at first....I could get to natter about retail etc for one.

It was the political stuff that changed it the most....drives me up the wall TBH.

The politics seems to seep into every thread too...then the rascist stuff...should be deleted straight away IMO.

Perhaps Martin could plonk the political debate into it's own board all the way down the bottom of the page.

I understand your sentiment FC, but I feel the issue is Brown is inextricably linked to this whole mess, hence that fact he generally creeps up in every thread.

It was a lot more than just Brown and his Govt though...they are just the mouthpieces really, spewing out academic bla bla...not really doing anything.

It was those that were busy 'Doing' that were causing the mess, inventing clever debt parcels etc etc. Everyone knows academics take forever to twig what's going on (I should know, some of my family are like that) as they are busy researching it. The Govt would have regulated it all eventually....just they are incompetent and take too long sussing out things...and the smart guys in the banks etc were ahead of the game...and have now done a runner with the loot.

Ranting about politics, particularly with benefit of hindsight is a bad use of energy.....

Having wasted an age ( ) catching up with several pages of total carp on this thread may I make some suggestions.

For those hung up on the idea of "sockpuppets" or "AE's", the problem remains entirely your own. If you read and consider the post, not the poster, then all you need to do is thank the posts you consider helpful or worthy and ignore or argue with those that you do not. Doesn't really matter who you are arguing with unless you allow it to and if you allow "feeling ganged up on" to come into the equation then you need to get a life outside of an internet forum;) . It was all quite funny at first, but it is downright tiresome now:rolleyes:

To those whinging on about nasty comments, name calling, racism, etc., the answer remains that funny little triangle at the bottom of each post - if you truly think it is out of order just report it and move on. If someone really gets your goat and you cannot handle that without calling them a sockpuppet then pop 'em on ignore and move on.:D

Martin, I think that the original intention of the House Prices, Economy and Recession board is still best left where it is: however, I think that once they start up on their sock-puppet arguments then all such posts are best deleted as they frequently de-rail a perfectly good thread.:D However, I don't think the move down around DT would be the end of the World, and cannot imagine why it would cause quite so much vitriole. I read and post in both and don't find either any more intellectual than the other, and you can skip the ladies problems and fluffy bunny threads it you want to - just vote with your mouse;)

Big hugs (just to prove I can do the Arms as well):D

Edited to add: I have so far never reported to abuse as I have not worked out how to do it since my puter doesn't do outlook express:rolleyes:

I think this board should be moved to the Arms. Absolutely. Having this board up here, and with all the various strange and rude comments, it gives the impression that MSE is a bit of a joke and not to be taken seriously.

All the sensible posters who had something to offer have long gone onto other sites where they can have normal discussions (occasionally heated) but without being abused and having hordes of weirdos making odd comments.

This board is the equivalent of the Jeremy Kyle Show with scummy lowlifes spouting off at every opportunity. NO decent, sensible intelligent human being is going to read all this rubbish!!

In one way it doesn't make any difference to the outside world - anyone reading this board would think most of the people were 'troubled' in some way and not take a blind bit of notice of what they had to say.

It's also glaringly apparent that some people actually believe their views are going to steer the economy and housing market in which ever way they want!:rotfl: Don't think so somehow!! Not EVERYONE reads MSE - and not everyone takes notice of dotty posts! In fact, I'd say that NO-ONE takes notice of the posters on this board simply because less and less people are bothering to read it. It's Jeremy Kyle without the close-up shots of bare fat dimpled thighs, tattood batwings, and brown chipped teeth.

I'm keeping the sockpuppet chat on this board and reporting it to abuse.

I did wonder where that had come from!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I think it's a very good idea to move this board. It's become very tedious to read (the same old, same old people write the same old, same old stuff) and anyone new reading it would just close it and go off somewhere else.

It's full of people becoming angry, rude and insulting - and no-one gives any constructive advice. They either gloat over people's bad financial misfortune, or goad people by saying they're waiting until some poor soul loses their home and they'll then buy it for peanuts.

    XX

Its true a lot is same old same old, I think thats tha nature of themed boards though, and a reflection of what we are discussing, not just us. And I agree with you comments on rude and insulting, BUT its not all.

A few weeks ago I posted a thread when I was thinking of buying something at a price that made me uncomfortable. It was a busy thread, a personal rather than an artical discussion thread, so one of the potentially unpopular ones. Almost every post, whatever the opinion, was well intentioned, kind and supportive, whether they were written by people who would go for it or people who thought I was nuts :).

Since the new year I've been feeling wary of and bit disillusioned with the board, but I do think its value is great when it works well\, and I have said hopeful that with enough contribution from the peolple who want it, and who are not silly, it could be both supportive, frank and funny while we discuss issues which for many of us can only be approached from our core beliefs. The passion is part of that, but I don't think the nastiness has to be. When I have voiced/typed by disillusion the collegiate atmosphere has attmpted to resurrect and the nice messages and PMs have made me fel a little guilty about being frustrated.

I don't know what the answer is. Its clear things aren't working well as they are, but I also think this is something I can't find elsewhere on the net, yet and I'd be saddened to see that lost or devalued.

I have managed, to report a post, and I don't have outlook either. you have to copy and past the link to the post into the text of an email, then come back and copy the email adress for abuse (at the top of the page) to send it. Sometimes, for personal reasons, I find this all a bit difficult without a more direct method of reporting, but I recognise this is my problem not MSE's

I am one of the people here who really is here a lot (too much) and should be reporting more, I suppose, but the current set up is very awkward personally for me:o. Then I've thought too long about it and think its probably only me who'd be offended because no one more able has reorted the post, so I think I've over reacted and sigh and move on.:o:rolleyes:

Now I'm not sure what I should report.

I thanked you and then realised the one post I made on this thread was among those removed! I have never, ever, used the 'S' word!

The gist of my post was that the 'S' posting was a load of puerile nonsense akin to the classroom antics of adolescents with homone overload.

    But we all make mistakes......;)

ETA. I think we should stay here.

This thread has become a microcosm of what happens on a lot of threads in this board. Someone posts a serious item, it gets discussed in a reasonable way for the first couple of pages, and then it drowns in sea of infantile and purile arguments, insults and accusations. This thread is a 'yard stick' by which to judge the rest of the board, and as such it should stand un-moderated.

By deleting/removing any items from this thread, you're sanitising the content and IMO undermining attempts to return this board to a reasonable footing. Martin and the abuse team should have to wade through all of the nonsense to find the few decent posts, in the same way the rest of us serious HP/Economy & Recession contributors have to.

Martin wouldn't go far wrong if he started his new 'tougher stance' by working through this thread (and the new S*** P***** thread) and PPR'ing the obvious idiots.

The board doesn't need moving, but the idiots who wreck it do. For an example of how a serious discussion thread is ruined by these idiots, please refer to my "Is it time to buy and secure a long-term mortgage fix?" thread. Lots of regulars trying to have a serious discussion, intersperced with inane, purile and insulting comments from the idiots. Post #2 is a good example of how some regulars (me, on this occasion) are immediately targetted for abuse, simply because they offer alternative viewpoints on the Housing Market.

Please stop sanitising this thread, and leave the drivel in here for Martin and the team to see because, sadly, it's currently as much part of the Housing, Recession & Economy board as the serious content.
