I have also visited DT and the shennaigans over there are worse than here. Umpteem threads denigrating into claims and counter claims of alternative ID's, people swearing and being rude to each other.

You need a pretty thick skin to post over there....so many (not all I admit) are far too prejudicial of others it is like trying to walk through treacle up the hill to get to the top.

I have actually found it to be less mature not more...hence the reason why I only stayed a very short time before giving up, I didn't much like being called scum on an hourly basis.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

This just isn't the case Sue, sorry. And it's totally unfounded.

I remember you being there, and you posted some stuff about benefits, without knowing probably and got into an argument about it. What you posted, if I remember, could have been seen as inflamatory. Like I said, you didnt know, so I'm not having a go, but at the same time it's unfair to suggest this is what DT is like, when it's not.

Benefits arguments are raurcus there, as theres always the baiting.

But there are not many alternative ID's, honestly.

i feel leaving it in its present position would be better. probably one could make it clear next to the forum names that this forum is for economy discussions and the house prices forum is for queries.

i usually only frequent the pure money forums as there are too many forums anyway. maybe necessary but probably i wont be browsing the moneysavers arms discussions.

loads of newbies and longtime lurkers (i was one before i officially joined the forum) interested in the economy might just lurk around the pure money forums and not venture into the 'arms discussion areas'. these discussions certainly helped guide me when i was looking to buy a house. i think it would be a loss for FTBs looking to buy a house or considering their options if the economy discussions on this forum gets moved to the moneysaving arms discussion area. most people like me wouldnt venture into the arms discussion area as that format is not for the likes of me. guess that will be one more reason to lurk elsewhere than here. anyway you cant please everyone.

as i understand i think the pointless namecalling etc might have had to do something with this decision to move this forum to the moneysaving arms discussion area. but such things are part of forums. yes its tiring (more so for the board guides and abuse team i guess) but i think leaving the economy discussions with in the pure money area right next to the house prices/renting forum is the right place for it, as it is now rather than moving it to the arms discussion area.

I find DT too fast paced. You post something 1 minute, pop out to have lunch, come back to view the thread again and find that it is on page 7 with no further replies.

What are your thoughts Martin about volunteer mods with admin priviliges that would be able to control out of hand threads, by A, deleting offensive remarks, or B, locking the thread, or C, freezing accounts with short term bans etc.

    Just like other forums.

I suspect this has all come about after complaints about this board and how it has degenerated in the last couple of months.

It's probarly the most pointless board on MSE, so maybe it should be closed down altogther. The losers can go to HPC.co.uk instead.

Do what you want; it's your website. I wouldn't waste more than five minutes of your time on this forum though. My only worry is the endless house prices are falling/rising, yes/no they're not, might spill back to where they came from.

Inflamatory? So stating that not every person on benefits is scum was inflamatory? I was posting in response to someone saying everyone was scum and merely pointing out that was not the case...I didn't swear, I didn't shout (internet shout), I just put my case politely as I would normally.

If I remember correctly, I did turn the conversation around and got people thinking about other reasons why a person may be on benefits...it actually turned into quite a nice thread in the end with everyone being nice to each other.

I also took part in many many other discussions outside of benefit matters but found the view to be very narrow minded apart from a few posters who were amazingly helpful in putting me on the right track for my future career prospects.

I use both boards - and whilst some of the subjects overlap - I do not see what 'Jade Goody' or 'does anyone fart in front of their boyfriend' have to do with the discussions we have in this room.

I have said this before - people will ask and talk about subjects on this forum simply because they want to hear, discuss, argue etc. with this particular group of people.

Discussion Time is too broad a forum for a lot of the subjects discussed in here.

Plus its location at the bottom is terrible positioning. It is the postion of DT and MSA that should be considered

I once added to a thread on here about Private Education - it was moved to DT - on here it was interesting - once it moved it lost its way.

I agree that certain people spoil threads BUT the same happens on DT.

We should keep this room under all circumstances!!!
