  • Hi Everyone!!
Nyk-Hope you are able to trade some of your eggs. That would be great. Wish we had a LETTs scheme nearer us. Yes we are very excited and relieved about the cottage. I am still nervous and worried that it might not happen...as for chickens, we won't be getting any for the moment as we do like to travel but in the future who knows?

Taka-Well done for being assertive. I am trying to do the same at school. Sounds like you deserved those treats!!!!!!!!!!!

SL-Shame about the concert. You could have done with a boost after your poor arm. Take care XX

    Have a great evening everyone.

    Good for you Taka,

There are too many people around who take the credit for other people's hard work. I am proud that you 'exposed' their laziness and stood up for yourself. I think that you are .
Thanks for that but the latest update as of a couple of minutes ago is B*****d boss has now changed his mind again... I am now not to be a 1st author after all on this work, mearly one of a dozen or so authors. Apparently I did not have enough "intellectual input" to warrant 1st authorship! @^$#h0le senior Postdoc is still a 1st author despite doing 0% of the experimental work, having naff all "intellectual input" (unless ignoring me counts??) and only being involved in the writing. :wall: ...errrrrm double standards spring to mind! Remind me again why I work for this man? At least I didn't cry when he told me but it was a close run thing... Lets hope I calm down overnight as I want to throttle the both of them at the moment...

My food budget stands no chance... I'm about to finally leave work and get a takeaway and more choc on the way home. :o

    Sorry for the swearing... :(

((hugs)) Taka..... Sounds like B*****d Boss is sucking up to a certain PD

Not impressed with Mr M today. On driving past the store they're taking over this morning, I caught sight of a poster about a free bus to our current closest. So when I nipped out for veggies (to make a thick veg soup for my lunches for the next week and a bit) I came back that way to check it out. Mon, Wed & Fri they're running two buses in each direction. Monday is out as I have younger GD all day (and help in school from 9am-11:30am), and I suspected Wednesday wouldn't be good as I have to collect younger GD at 2pm having seen her in around 9am. But that left Friday as a possible....

The early bus leaves from outside our store at 9am (which is useless baring in mind it's a few minutes walk from the school, and the bell goes at 8:55am but I then have to wait until the door opens and the children are heading in), and the later bus leaves us at 12 noon. Problem with the later one is the return journey leaves at 2:30pm, I suspect a half-hour run (which ties in with the first return being at 12:30 and presumably the 12 noon bus turning round), the possibility of being late leaving or caught in traffic coming back, and I've got to be at the school for a 3:15pm collection! So 6 free buses a week, and not a single one of any use to anyone with school aged children

Not so good for the bus Cheryl, I wonder what they would say if you pointed this out to them. It may be that it is someone with no kids who has drawn up the rota and not thought of this sort of thing. If you don't ask, you don't get. Also, due to this valid point, the buses may be quite empty and they will put them off due to the lack of demand.

I would ask, and 'knowing' you, I suspect you will. go for it and let us know how you get on. xx

Is there anyone else you can speak to about this, it just seems so unfair.:(

I think you deserve the takeaway and the choc tonight, enjoy it and chill out for a bit. I don't advocate this sort of behaviour usually, but why don't you let them do some work tomorrow and you take a sick day. Those 2 have made you sick anyway, so you might be too unwell to look at their faces tomorrow. (I know, I am a naughty girl for suggesting such a thing.):A

And it is okay to swear sometimes.:p

Hello, I have just joined MSE having followed lots of threads for quite a while.
You seem to be such a varied and interesting lot on here so please may I join in?

I'm 43. I have gardened organically all my life, first helping my granddad and getting my first allotment when I was 17. I've always lived OS style. I have worked in a professional job all my life. That's the easy bit to say, the rest of my life is too complicated to explain simply.

    Happily married
Moved to the house or our dreams, near the sea, 1 acre plot, with potential for B&B
    Looking for a job....
    Dh passed away
Found I am pregnant, due in September
So I have to carry on......

This is why I have to join, to set myself goals. I have to live on £6.500 a year or I will loose this house and I will need this house for all the children as they grow. It needs some restoring so I need all the money I can save for that. I'm so scared. So tired of it all but I have to stay here.

aims for 2014 - grow more fruit and veg, declutter
  • Welcome aeb, yes we are quite a diverse lot and you will pick up lots of tips etc as you read our postings. I can quite understand your need to keep your house on and do the required work to it. Condolences and congratulations to you also, sounds like you will need to be strong to cope alone but when you join us you will get so much support that I hope you never feel alone anymore.
    Keep to £400 a month on C/C.

Good morning Frugalites and special welcome to aeb who is our newest recruit :D (Rushes off to add name to list on page one before aeb changes her mind - back in a mo!) :D

OK, I'm back again, got to do these things quickly before potential new recruits have the chance to escape the [STRIKE]insanity[/STRIKE] eccentricities of our frugalite bunch.:rotfl:£6,500 sounds fine to me, aeb, and if that is your actual budget then you haven't much choice in the matter - it WILL be sufficient. The regulars here are all very friendly and supportive, some of us know one another in person, others have met up on occasions and most are online supporters of one anothers lifestyles. All are helpful and there's always someone around if you need to vent your anger/fury/rage/despair/joy/whatever. :) With a full one acre plot and potential for B&B - I can already hear everyone begging for you to offer frugal breaks to a place that has a self-sufficientish frugal garden. :j

It was lovely here this morning when I went to let the chickens out so I stuck a washing on - now it is raining!! Typical! I guess that makes the decision for me today - work is indoors and not outside playing. :( I've defrosted some leftover mince and pastry, so I'll make a mince pie for tea and bake some biscuits at same time. But my mind is on the garden as I have just worked out where I can squeeze in a larger henhouse. This crawling around on dodgy knees to find eggs is useless, I need something easier to manage if I'm going to be having regular customers buying my surplus eggs - even if it is only 2 customers. :rotfl:

My ducklings have decided that it's time to start sampling things other than their food, grass and weeds - this morning I caught them happily munching on my raspberry bushes!:eek::eek: There are 5 rasp bushes they within their enclosure, so I'm guessing that these are going to need a little fence around them  - my garden must look an absolute picture in aerial view! It'll be like an oddments patchwork quilt with blobs that are ducks and hens everywhere! :rotfl:

Keeping fingers crossed that this is just a passing rain shower so I can get all the washing out and get into the garden... can't wait until SM gets back her hols, maybe I'll trade her some garden work or chickens for some cooking! :rotfl:

Have a good day even if it's a bad one - TAKA, don't let the bandits get you down, they will receive what's due to them one day and you'll be the one with the clear conscience and the smile on your face. :)
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

    welcome aboard aeb

I'm also 43, widowed (last November) and out of work after 23 years in IT (preceded by one year in a clerical post), but unlike you have no small children - my 'baby' will be 18 in July. But I'm currently spending as much time as possible with my grand-daughters who are just turned 4 (last month) and almost 6 (August).

I'm trying to declutter the house (also my dream house when we bought it, though I'd now love to have more land and be allowed chickens!) so I can get some jobs done (probably minor to you - changing floor coverings and decorating) with one eye on taking up child-minding, and another on the possibility of becoming a foster parent. Either option would allow me to continue to look after my GDs before and after school, which is something they and I seem to be enjoying having the opportunity to do :)

As to the Mr M buses, I'm not quite sure who I'd contact - but it's possibly worth a shot as we still have about 8 weeks until our store opens, and I know our local C00p and A!di are still much busier than they ever used to be - and with people filling trolleys, not just bobbing in for odd bits you wouldn't want to get the bus out for......
