nyk and sophiesmum,
Can you set up some frugal guest chalets please. We want to come and stay.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Good morning frugalonians and what a lovely morning it is. I'm hoping we are going to get a repeat of last May's mini-heatwave but the cold wind hetre is a bit of a spoiler for now.
EFC - now I know you don't stay where I did, I used to be in a tiny village named West Row
Whitewing, maybe we could find you some really cheap digs. Our local LETS has several people offering B&B - We could barter for them. :rotfl:
Another sunny day here. HS got home around 4am, so I woke for cuppa and we managed to wake Mr White who started crowing! I pretended not to hear him so he went back to sleep. :rotfl:
SM - Have a great holiday, see you in a fortnight
Have a good day, everyone. I'm going to try to get my turnip/swede patch finished ready for planting seedlings the build a fortress around it so the hens don't get in and wreck it. :rolleyes:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

. It will get used next month and in July for school which is what the main reason for buying it was for. When it's DS2 and DD's birthdays they take a cake in for each child and there's about 30 in each class (in my day we never took anything in ). It's only unfrugal if you don't use it and you're using yours, did your cakes sell well? It probably looks more professional with them being in the carrier.

congrats Purplevamp: I love your idea of spending £1 per year together. Did the fact you bought a £4 teeshirt for DH mean it feels like you have been married twice as long as you have...and is that a good or a bad thing?:D
Well I am very excited: I have booked train tickets to go and visit bails on Thursday:j:j.(Item 1 on 101 list) This will be the furthest I have travelled nearly 4 years so am terribly excited: about a 3 hr train journey:o.
Got lots of bitty jobs today to clear the decks for a busy rest of the week. For the last 2 days I have been doing lots of food prep and bulk cooking. Lentil salad now in freezer for picnic on fri with a friend, won't have time to make it Thurday. Need to prep slow cooker dinner for tomorrow today so I can just bung it in tomrrow a.m. as I fly out the door.Tomorrow evening I need to be cake making too for various peeps and prep slow cooker dinner for OH on Thursday as I won't be home til late.
Tomorrow I have mosaic class and then for the afternoon am exhibit 'a' in a med school exam, which is always very interesting and you are very well looked after: last time I got to take a doggy bag home of all the left over muffins and sandwiches:D. I will take bag in this time in hope.
When visiting an 'open art houses' in our street as part of our festival here on Sunday, I was potentially offered the opportunity to exhibit (for sale) my mosaics there too next year. I will follow this up. It gives me a year to prepare about 10 pieces perhaps and is a good goal that at present feels manageable (and is on my 101 list for those following that thread)
Have a great holiday SMI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
nyk and sophiesmum,
Can you set up some frugal guest chalets please. We want to come and stay.
I second this but only want to come if you can guarantee no midges........yeuch :rotfl:can i pay for the B&B in tomato plants??:rotfl:
Quick break from studying as my head is spinning history of politics and social protest.....................who cares!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Off to my free pottery class and i am so excited i havent thrown a pot for 20 years at least i would love to do the follow up course(not free) will see how much it is first
Hubby just rang to say he has been offered term time hours for his current job it means a drop in income of about £160 a month, his job is safe he wanted to ease into retirement and have more leisure time and thanks to this challenge i think its doable and while i am at uni we will have lots of time at home together.............thats a good thing ,we have only been married 2 years to (on the 8th of June)
Thanks Nyk for the thread and to evryone who contributes it's lifechanging

BB / Bails - Have a lovely day visiting:D
I think it is gret the friendships that have developed from this thread.
OH and me just about to leave for airport off to visit maltese friends for two weeks. Will catch up with everyone's news once I get back
Shaz - you re so right - this thread is life changing0 -
If only it wasn't so windy, we could all bring our tents on a mass visit to Frugaland - we could have a frugalcamp :rotfl:0
-
Just a heads up....I checked mysupermarket.co for prices & special offers as we made plans to visit our closest MrA, 45mins drive each way for us:eek:
Anyhoo, the site definately said there was an offer on Shredded Wheat ending 12/5/09, but there was nothing to advertise it in store so I asked. Basically, the store can change its offers whenever it pleases & it is up to mysupermarket.co to update it's site.
To be fair, the assistant helping me did say that it would help if I had had a PRINTED copy of the offers I had seen, so next time I'm going tooled up
Just thought I'd pass on the info.....Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Good morning fellow frugalites
Belated happy anniversary Purplevamp
BB, the exhibiting of your mosaics sounds like a great thing to work towards and that gives you loads of time to prepare a few pieces. Well done!
anyone wanting to camp in Frugaldom, I'd need to warn you that there isn't a lot of space, there would be chickens trying to get into your tents and those tents may end up being blown as far as Belfast, depending on which way the [STRIKE]winds[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]gales[/STRIKE] cyclones are [STRIKE]blowing[/STRIKE] spinning! :rotfl: Maybe the garage could become a frugal bothy - once we mend the roof panel that got blown out yesterday! :rotfl:
The sun is shining and the mini-cyclones have swirled to a steady bluster, ideal for horizontal drying of washing. Going to get stuck into the swede & turnip patch today and try to get a border built around it so it can be covered out of hen reach.Ooh, who mentioned hens? Mrs Grey has started laying eggs again even although her chicks (now 5 weeks old) are still with her. If 'Jet Black' is laying, that will make 5 out of the 6 or about 12 dozen eggs per month. :j Baking, lemon curd & meringues will be in full production soon.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Nyk - Your hens are free range aren't they? How do you stop them laying away from the nest, and get them to come back in to roost at night?
Here is a conundrum - why are my interest payments going UP when my overdraft is going DOWN? It has not been about £200 since last month, yet I paid £8.75 interest? Whereas if it was at £750 (where it usually would be just before payday) I would only be paying £5?????We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0
