wow, nyk, that fixy up does look amzing - if only it was in a town it would be great:rotfl:. Can see why you love the look of it cheryl.

Jamiedodger - great to have you back. It's the coming back that is important, rather than giving up completely: you will still make a huge difference to your annual costs.
Thanks ram & sft for bike comments: I'm on a bit of a go slow this week and need to get a few bits on it tweaked before a serious try out. Just posted on our local freecycle cafe for the first time to see if anyone could help me with it in exchange for a supply of HM cakes.

Been trying to do too much at once and need to chill and unwind and remember rome wasn't built in a day.

Local charity just collect furniture & bits and bobs which feels good.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Well E.on since you are searching this you tried to put my STO up to £157 per month!!!! on friday. When I queried this you wouldn't budge even though it is now summer, so I paid a lump sum, changed my tariff and you still tried to get £16 per month more than uswitch told me it would be even when I had put in my actual usage in for the last year!

DS is 16. He is leaving school and going to an apprenticeship mechanics job as soon as he can. Something that his father has set up with DAF Trucks I believe. But I dont know the finances of it. As yet. anyway. Thats what worries me. His school mate mentioned to him to day that "did you know that our mums will loose the child benefit for us when we leave school", and I thought and the rest. The maintenance from his father, the child tax credits, and possibly some of the housing benefit/???
Mooloo - been doing some digging on Child Benefit for myself (trying to find out when it stops after my DS finishes his college course next June, as I have CTC and Widowed Parents Allowance that are dependant on this being paid) and came across the following
What counts as 'relevant' training for Child Benefit?

We pay Child Benefit if your child is over 16 and is doing a course of 'approved' training. Your child would need to have enrolled or been accepted onto the course before their 19th birthday.
    Approved courses are as follows:
    • for England - Entry to Employment and Programme-led Apprenticeships
    • for Wales - Skillbuild, Skillbuild+ and Foundation Modern Apprenticeships
    • for Scotland - Get Ready for Work, Skillseekers and Modern Apprenticeships
    • for Northern Ireland - Training for success (professional and technical training)
A course provided by an employer as part of a job contract doesn't count as approved.

    Hello,

not been posting in ages but will catch up and post soon.

I just got a quick question today. Our washing machine won't spin anymore. Is it worth getting the repair man out for a ten year old model or would you recommend just getting a new one (saw some reduced from £250). Has anyone ever had the repair man in and how big a bill can I expext?

    Thanks a million

:rotfl::rotfl: That's at least 112.5 years of 4k budget and still no roof over one's head, let alone walls to hold the roof in place. That has to be a send up, almost half a million for that when I could have THIS and £25,000 change to buy a few acres of woodland. No competition, prices are completely mad 'down south'. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi Thrifty, why not call up the repair man and ask how much the call out will be and, in the meantime, open up the machine and check that it isn't just the belt that's snapped. If it is, then mine only cost about £4 to do a DIY repair, I bought the belt on eBay, just search for your machine model number. :D

    :eek::eek: Yikes aeb!
Nyk LOVE that house, wouldnt it be beautiful to live there.

Thrifty as Nyk says I would get a quote. My Grandparents have paid nearly double the price of a new fridge freezer on repairs. It frustrates me so much to see them waste their money ike that but they wont be told. I fully understand their make it last mentality but you have to draw the line somewhere dont you?

I have been lurking again for a while, still feel incredibly guilty that I am not keeping up with writing it all down. Still being frugal though, just mixed leftover cabbage and spuds (from yesterdays tea) with some onions and made into Bubble and squeak patties and fried them in a little oil. Had them with leftover gammon joint from yesterday, yum yum!
