DS is 16. He is leaving school and going to an apprenticeship mechanics job as soon as he can.

I don't think apprenticeships affect family allowance/child benefit. As long as they are within a set criteria for training purposes, they are treated as though it's fulltime education just as if your DS had gone to college to learn the trade. Had my ex signed over the child benefit, I would have been able to claim it when my DS was doing his training course. (But that's another story.)

That strange house has potential. I'd be happy to stay in it when we come to visit if you want to run it as a holiday cottage.

I don't think it'll be mortgageable seeing as it's been built with wood but, if you have the cash, I'll certainly keep an eye on the place for you as a holiday home. :rotfl:It's mad the way prices work, if it had been a stone-built cottage sitting there with an acre of land then it could probably have sold very quickly for more than double what they're asking, despite it being next to the main road.

Bails, I'll watch out for a 'wee bothy' for your project. Wouldn't it be great if there was a job whereby people just gave you a bundle of cash and said buy me a house that fits this description and didn't mind what it cost, how long it took or where it was plus paid you all expenses during the search, purchase and renovation or conversion? That would be a fab job! :D

Third time lucky - not starting this post with 'I don't think...' just in case you all get the wrong impression. I do think, sometimes. :D

I apologize for my last post (its miles above, wow this is one BUSY forum!) and didn't even take bills etc into account really. I know the electric prices have gone wild over the last few years. Ten years ago a UK passport was £21. Now it is £72 I almost had a seizure when I saw the prices last night, what the? Passports should be FREE, what the hell are taxes funding if we still have to pay for such things. Money does actually go from taxpayers pockets to the Government, right, or am I misled about that? Sometimes I have to wonder. Having to pay £72 to leave this dump is the icing on the cake.

Nyk - that house looks amazing!!! (And if I could convince DS it was a good move and sell mine, then I wouldn't need a mortgage ;) )

    Hi everyone,

have been MIA for a long time, flippin laptop broke again and today I have hijacked ds2's whilst he is at school. i dont know why I hadnt thought of this before now!!!

mine wont be fixed before the end of the month, finances have got in a serious muddle again, so NYK....please may I rejoin from 1st july?? am planning on getting myself back into the swing of things this month and practicing for the next few weeks so I will be ready for the second half of 2009.

Ive been reading back over what ive missed, all those exciting snippets of news and Ive gotta say SM...WOW!!!! you must be so excited!!

I have noticed one thing though with taking your eye off the ball, everything seems to go downhill, I know the last 2 months have gone fast and ive not saved a penny but I have no idea where my money went!! I do know that when I am following a plan I seem to have more money!

Anyways, Ive waffled, hope it is ok to rejoin xx
