    Hi everyone,
I've been having some relatively good days lately (yay!) but still don't deal with stress very well - my poor laptop nearly went out of the window amid floods of tears because I couldn't get it to do something properly!
I'm still worried about ds, I'm begining to think it's more than just depression and am trying to get him to go to the docs and ask about CFS.
He has his ESA medical tomorrow so I'm trying not to stress about that as I will have to keep ds calm.
    Let's hope this calmness prevails!

    good good ;)

Just remember these good days if you have a rough day - will remind you that they do exist :p
  • Had to come home from work again today, can't work out whether I am having panic attacks, side effects or both! Would have gone to see the doctor again this afternoon, but they are closed on Wednesday afternoons. Going to go to work tomorrow I've decided, I can't let it spiral out of control. I have the weekend off and my mum is coming to visit so I'll just try to get through work and look forward to that.
  • Hi. My fiance left me in Febuary and I've been very depressed since. I work as many hours as humanly possible in an effort to stop myself from thinking...but it doesn't work. I've been on antidepressants and had counselling for 7 months now but they haven't made much of a difference to be honest.

I have now been 'accepted' for cognitive behavioural therapy and wondered if anyone else had had this for depression and if you found it useful? How does it work ie what does it entail? I'm just nervous as my counsellor warned me it could be pretty intense. I'm willing to try anything though if it makes me see light at the end of this tunnel! :o

Please feel free to pm me if you don't want to post here.

  • having a bad day. After a lovely weekend, my OH is back wallowing and everybody gets it in the neck over they way he's being treated by another family member. He yells at the slightest little thing. Its dragging me down. He started last night over the way I kissed him goodnight. He yells and yells and I feel so useless. Crying today thinking about it. He said sorry, he goes all morose (sp?) and says he won't do it again but he does and he's driving my friends away (although were they true friends in the first place?). All over the place today, not sure whether its lack of sleep or just depression or both.

My CBT therapist described it like this - she said all the problems and emotions and feelings I couldn't face were like a banquet, like being made to sit down at a huge table and digest everything all at once. It's impossible and you just end up feeling bad and failing. CBT is like taking a plate at a time and seeing how you get on. And then, when you've emptied one plate (i.e. dealt with one memory, or emotion) then that plate is clear of the table, and you have moved on a step, and the table is slightly less daunting. It is a steady slow process, and some days are hard, but you get there in the end, and you can always look back and see how far you've come.

Good luck and if you have a bad day don't be put off - it's all part of the journey to feeling better and more complete. Feel free to PM me if you want to

CBT can be really effective and perhaps you needed your other counsellor until you were in a place to engage with it. Its a lot of paper & pen and challenging unhelpful thoughts so isn't helpful for severe depression as cognitively you may not be able to "get it".

I am a relationship counsellor who uses some CBT tools and have also had CBT. Initially I thought I wasn't getting anywhere and then it suddenly "clicked". Allow yourself to go throught he stages and in most cases it will work.

PM me if you want to, I don't mind.

PS I love Living Life to The Full. It's a great site. :-)
:hello: Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want:hello:

          3. CBT therapy is the reason I can leave the house so personally I can't gush about it enough.

You do have to work hard at it which is difficult if you are feeling a bit down, having people to support you and gently encourage you to any exercises will be a big help (even if its people from here who are going through the same thing). I liked it because I was able to take it at my own pace, with my therapist it was all driven by me. I made up the goals and decided how fast I was going to complete them, although I was often given a gentle push by my therapist. I had 8 sessions of someone coming to the house (I had gotten to the point where I just couldn't go out) and another 6 months of seeing someone every 2 weeks.

I know you wanted to know about people who had CBT for depression but we did a lot of work on the depression that tagged along with my anxiety as the 2 seemed to go hand in hand at times. Even though the main goal was to get me out the house, without dealing with the depression I was going through as well it wouldn't have worked. I think it has a much better chance of working if you want it to work and believe it will work. If you go in thinking it will be a waste of time you won't get a lot out of it.

            Good luck.
