It might be a bit simplistic, but what is your diet and exercise like?

Both have major effects on mood and while I'm not suggesting they are the solution to your problem, you may well find they help in some way.

I've suffered depression many times and been treated by the doctor for it. The last time, I was advised by an alternative therapist to do lot of werid and wonderful things but one of her pieces of advice was particularly useful.

The type of depression I have suffered from is endogenous which means it doesn't need a particular thing to trigger it, it just rears its head from time to time. The therapist suggested I eat a more balanced diet and that I moved onto organic foods (tried this, too expensive, normal food just as good) with a large proportion of fruit and vegetables. When I do this, I feel so much better. When I feel myself getting low, I respond by buying lots and lots of mushrooms, this seems to work ( not they aren't magic mushrooms! before some smart Alec makes a comment!). Apparently, some research showed that people with depression lack certain B vitamins which are largely found in mushrooms.

This may or may not be true. Either way it works for me and so what if it's a placebo. Bit of a problem if you can't stand mushrooms though.
Not a chance in hell of mushrooms curing my depression-i'm phobic of them...

There is an established thread here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1593859
although it has been very queit lately but usually there is a lot of support.
I haven't read the whole thread yet but definitely pay a visit to your GP and also try getting out for a walk every day somewhere nice. I found that to be one of the most helpful things and as has already been said make sure that you are eating a healthy diet. Here is an article about mood enhancing food.

Take good care you have been through an awful lot and it will take time to heal x

  • I've suffered from depression for 12 years now & still haven't found the cure.

I'm starting to think that i'm just one of those people that will never be happy.

My depression seems to effect everyone in my life negatively making me an impossible person to be around pulling me downwards into the negative spiral of which there is no return.

I would give anything to be normal, just to be able to function normally like a human being.

I'm sorry I don't have anything positive to add. :(
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I've suffered from depression for 44 years and it took a long long time before I found something that helped me a lot.

Over the years i've seen psychiatrists , counsellors , tried cbt and all kinds of medication and nothing helped much and I still went into deep pits of depression periodically. The anti d that has worked for me is Sertraline and although I still have the underlying problem of social phobia it's kept me from sinking into the 'pit' and kept me on an even keel. I've tried coming off it several times , but I start going downhill quite quickly so i'm happy to keep taking it , as is my family!

What i'm trying to say is , keep trying different treatments and hopefully you'll find the one that really helps you. I've felt like you , I thought i'd never be normal (whatever that is :undecided anyway normal's overrated!) and I couldn't see any hope for a decent future , but finding the right treatment has helped me see that there's much to enjoy in life and I owed it not only to my family , but to myself to keep plugging away until I found something that worked for me.

    xx

I'm so, so sorry to hear of all your troubles, loveandlight.

I can't add to the wonderful suggestions above, but I wanted to say that you may not remember this, but when I was going through a difficult time that I posted about a few years ago, I remember your kindness and support.

It wasn't anything like what you're going through now, but it was confusing and worrying but your words helped me sort out what I needed to do.

So, although it's not what you came her for, I felt it was important to say that I think you're someone who deserves to be happy and I hope that with the right support you'll be able to move forward and enjoy life again.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

I hope you've been able to read some of the responses, loveandlight. The thread sort of slid away today but I know lots of us are thinking about you.

The fact that you've asked for help is a great sign. Some people with depression don't ask and will in actual fact cover it up with disastrous consequences.

Been there, done that and nearly lost a friend in the process.

The REAL problem and again IMO is the un-warranted deletion of posts, some of us have posted some very personal thoughts on here well within the rules only to have them binned is very very hurtful.

The abuse team is rightly named, they seem to 'abuse' the power they have been given, this is the THIRD time since dec 2008 this has happened.

My very best to some very good people I have met on here, take care and get better. Sssssss.

I've posted stuff on other threads that, in hindsight was very blunt about my condition (with details) and it was deleted by the mods.

To start with I was upset about it, but with some thought I realised that what to me, with my history of clinical depression is a perfectly normal mode of expression can, in fact be very confrontational/possibly distressing to others.

It is good if those of us dealing with these ongoing issues in our lives have a separate thread to do so.

    I'm glad I've found this thread. :)
