I'm having one of my 'no chance of any sleep' nights :(

I'm laying down, but no matter what way I turn, it hurts :(

    Insomnia is a curse :(

I'm so with you! Its gotten to the stage now where I actually fear trying to sleep- it makes me anxious just considering it! I get somewhere between 3-5 hours a night of sleep, occasionally I'll sleep in and get 7 but its once a week if that.

Just want to know how to make the pain and anxiety go away....

There was a sleep specialist doc on the tv a while ago dealing with insomnia. He treated Dominic Diamond who apparently had chronic insomnia for years and was at his wits end. His whole life was affected by it, marriage, children, work..the lot.

By the end of it all, Domininc was managing to sleep almost a full night, unbroken. I'm not sure if you'd find out about it by googling? It might throw up a few suggestions how to deal with your insomnia? It was really interesting how things were turned around for him. He went into it expecting it not to work but was amazed when it did.

    That's interesting aliasojo.

Cutting tea after 7pm has help but I'm still only getting 2 - 3 hours. The 3 hours are a good night.

Pain causes a lot of broken sleep and some nights stops me going to sleep completely.

    It's not nice :(

I googled and have a few links if anyone wants to read:

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article6255708.ece

    http://www.psychexchange.co.uk/videos/view/20391/

    http://www.gla.ac.uk/media/media_118498_en.pdf

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00j08h7

I've not read the article yet- this seems like what I'd call proper insomnia- I think for me its all anxiety driven, all about the "dark" in whatever metaphoric term you want to put it and about being alone and not having the energy to fight the moods or thoughts I had carefully balanced and positioned far away from me- they all come back at night because theres nothing left to block them from me. I think if they weren't there I'd be sleeping fine- but its a bad habit? (doesn't seem like the right word as its so combined with emotional pain and anxiety) that started off when I was quite small and had alot of anxiety for various reasons I wont bore you with on here.

I think proper insomnia seems more reasonless- it happens and its a chronic condition, I do sleep, but in the day time (weekends are governed by catching up as I can't sleep in in the week) so its more a delayed sleep thing rather then not sleeping full stop ever.

Hope others out there are able to get somewhere with their sleeplessness and if you are in any treatment that it turns out well.
  • I definitely know where you're coming from about the lack of sleep, I just can't seem to switch off when I go to bed and one night this week I actually said whats the point in going to bed when I know I'm not going to sleep! This week was worse then normal, I was getting 2 hours sleep a night, having to deel with being exhausted on top of everything else is not easy!

But on a lighter note I went out for a meal last night into town, I hadn't actually been out in town for 6 months, used to go out all the time but haven't got the money now so it was a nice treat. Went for a lovely meal, I couldn't drink because of the tablets I'm on but it actually didn't bother me and I thought it might have as we were out with my sister and her bf and me and my sis normally share wine. No plans for today so I think I'll do some baking, I always find that relaxes me
Going to get to grips with food shopping again, starting February!

Hello everyone I managed to force myself to the park today despite it being cold and damp. Feel a lot better for it. Felt really yukky yesterday TOTM and stayed in all day and got sucked into the internet void until late into the evening and definately felt worse for it. aliasojo's post definately resonates with me. Will try not to fall into the same trap today!! Just a little foray before I get on with other things!

Hi, there. I've been lurking on this thread for a while, and as you are now talking about insomnia, I have felt the need to say !hello!.

I feel the same, Losingpatience. This sounds weird, but it helps me... When trying to sleep, obviously with your eyes closed, roll your eyes around in circles. Clockwise works best for me. It sort of sends me into a trance, and helps me to drop off. Sounds strange, but it def helps me drop off.

I've recently come off temazepam, and I'm npt finding it easy.

    Wishing you all well.
