Sorry not sure if this is realvant but how much do people spend per person?? I live with my boyfriend and son (he's breastfeeding), His son comes over 3 times a week but hes' not a big eater and by my eatimates we are spending approx £350 on food including cleaning stuff etc. No nappies as we have reuseables.

This seems like alot to me. What do you all think
I don't work it out per person but try to keep the food bill at a reasonable level for us IYSWIM? I find that meal planning has been the best money saving idea for me. I started off by having a good look in the cupboards, fridge, freezer etc to see what meals I could make from what was already in there - it was quite a few :o - and yet I had been wandering around the supermarket every week buying the same stuff with no real idea of what I was going to make with it. We ended up eating a lot of the same kind of meals or I'd find a new recipe to try and would end up having to buy everything to make it with.

I increase the monthly budget to take into account changes - for example its the school holidays at the moment so I've increased the budget to take into account all the eating the children will do :rotfl:

Sorry if I've rambled on but I hope it helps. I'm happy to post more info should you need it.

I did my "big shop" at the weekend. After reading lots on here I too did the "coughscouredthereceiptwithafinethoothcombcough" Good job I did, there was an offer on the lynx deo sticks 2 for £3. SO we bought 2 identical ones, but on the receipt they hadn't taken the 62p off. Went to the customer services, she obviously thought I was confused and quoted me another Lynx offer  Confused? Me? Anyway after she checked got my 62p back. No giftcard tho :(

Checking my receipts may be my new hobby ;)

We, as a rule, do our shopping in Mr M's - my OH always checks the receipt before leaving the store (must say it sometimes irritates me as I am left standing at the front door waiting for him!!) and have to admit he often finds "errors" especially where offers are concerned and off he trots to customer services to query them.

He always does well out of it and either gets the discount or something for free if they have made a mistake!!

Grocery challenge? Gee Whizz it's not the grocery challenge that I need to worry about. It's my OTHER spending. Am in overdraft and am in shock:mad:

All my chat about being focussed on my grocery shopping and everything else will take care of itself is NONSENSE. Am completely rubbish with money. FACT!

I reckon I've spent about £250 that I wouldn't normally spend and am raging at myself. This has been carry out dinner, going to the movies THREE TIMES, Easter weekend activities, etc. AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Right, am away to online banking and see where the trouble first began (apart from my ability to blinker myself)

  • Hi, went to MR T last min sat pm to get last minute Easter flowers! (I know what am I like). Anyhoo managed to get 3 loaves nice brown seeded 30p each, 1 pineapple 38p and 2 seeded bread rolls for 9p. So now have £21-39 left, possibly doable. Also ordered big shop online for 30th to get free delivery, but will not need to use it till May. Weather awful always end up spending more money in the rain.. Cos kids drive me mad fighting at home, so I let everyone else enjoy them fighting as well.:rotfl:

  • Have spent nothing over the past few days other than £2.40 on milk. Am going to try to get to the weekend before spending anything else. Staying out of the supermarkets is definately helping!
