  • Hi all

Just been to Mr T's and spent £18.13. Got some Easter eggs for 49p as a little treat. Still on course to come under budget.

Been to MrM - chose time deliberately to spot any reduced goodies - and forgot to look in that section:rolleyes:. Not to worry.
Spent about £19 on things like ham, cheese, bread, Ribena Light (for DH and he won't do a supermarket own on this one -but....it's instead of beer sometimes as part of our healthy eating malarkey) and other bits. Some stuff |I don't have to buy often like freezer bags.

Jessie - yes - you can freeze bananas most successfully - just bung them in the freezer when you notice they're a bit too ripe. I nuke them with cinnamon, or choc spread shoved into the 'case' or just eat them when they come out all hot and almost toffee like. Yum yum. My brown bananas never get as far as banana bread.
Ok, I should be ok for food shopping for a few days. Freezer stuff to eat and plenty of potatoes although not so much in the way of carrots (one, forgot to buy) and greenery apart from my supply of lettuce.

Yet another trip to the supermarket today, this time for butter, milk and bread. Managed to spend £19 and a penny!! But, I got reduced pizzas for 2 adults and 3 weans so not all bad. Had a kind of Eton mess for pudding too (in wine glasses which impressed the bejeezus out of three 11 year olds) :D

I reckon I've been nonsense shopping the past couple of times. There's no real need to have bought all that I did BUT DS made mention today that we're hardly throwing any food out. We separate food wastage here and this week it's full of peelings and stale bread, so not bad.

Still, back to work for me tomorrow. Gives me butterflies but not in a good way. Financial Services sector a bit scary

Hello - hope you have all enjoyed the long weekend.

Well I think I'm going to be over this month . Have had BIL over a few times for dinner as he has just split from his wife, and that also entailed wine/beer which we wouldn't otherwise buy (well, not in those quantities anyway..) Plus invited MIL and FIL for dinner today and realised just before they arrived that we didn't have any gravy. Sent DH to C**P and he returned with said gravy plus a box of beers, custard (Birds NOT own brand) and some worcestershire sauce (bit of a mixture!). Good thing was - he paid for that little shop otherwise would be waaaay over.

Have MrT coming tomorrow evening (cheapy slot) with the last few bits as our month ends on 20th. The website is estimated £71 but I'm hoping there will be a few reductions as I've order a few offers.

Wonder if MrT will start doing 'free' delivery now that Ocad0 has announced they are?

Finally ate my way through most of my freezer contents, have had some slightly odd food combos though! Is all defrosted and clean now:D
Have a Waitrose delivery coming tomorrow to fill it back up, they have their chicken reduced and i had a money off voucher. I will have blown my weekly budget but should work out in the long run.

Boodle-don't forget there are lots of other good sources of iron. I am slightly anaemic and I was told if I didn't want to up my red meat then boiled eggs, dark green veggies (think Popeye and spinach), baked beans and dried figs are all full of iron. You could make yourself a salad with some baby spinach and hard boiled eggs and have a wholemeal pitta bread on the side along with a glass of orange juice and that will help a lot.

Thanks Toonie :) We already eat quite a lot of pulses, dried fruit and green veg so the main things to really work on is the vitamin C with them to boost absorption and upping the red meat to having some each week. Altho the tablets I have been given should boost me up I feel I should be adusting my diet rather than just relying on those iykwim :) Forgot to mention a good tip (tho apologise if teaching granny to suck eggs ;) ) I have found a teaspoon of marmite in pretty much anything saucy i.e. soups, stews, curries, adds such a good flavour that I wish I had thought of it before!

I have been missing a good few days as haven't been too well so am sorry I haven't been able to catch up on the challenge much today. I have also stupidly managed to throw away last week's receipt, but the total was around £33 so I will adjust my total with that as an estimate. Hope everyone else's challenge is going well and on track x

  • Hi all,

Have failed miserably already on keeping to a £200.00 budget for April, but have had a great time camping!!!!!!!!! Maybe i ought to stick to a weekly budget instead of monthly, will be a lot easier to keep an eye on!

Not sure if I'll make it this month but I'll have a d*mn good try!!

OH is getting to grips (at last) with the money saving :rolleyes:and is quite happy to eat whatever I put in front of him so there might be a few more 'freezer suprise' meals for the next 2 weeks

hello....hope everyone enjoyed easter....we had some nice roast dinners and simnel cake.....back to reality now and trying to use up various wilting bits from the fridge....i have made bubble and sqeak but its a bit green looking:confused: oh well ill have to cover it in sauce...i find it hard adjusting food purchased in holidays...im still on term mode and suddenly we might go out for lunch and i dont cook a big tea....just beans on toast say and the upshot is iv got a lot of wilting veg that needs using up

on a more positive note i used up a bit of melon i had left in a smoothie and it was nice.....i normally use bananas and mangos but the melon was nice.....sort of cool tasting

i have been out looking at fridges today....i was going to get a table top freezer but have decided to get a little chest freezer and a big lardder type fridge um decisions decisions...i like big fridges that are tall so i dont have to scrabble about on my hands and knees

we had a mcdonalds as a treat for the kids today...some treat in my opinion but they like it...i read in a thrift type book once that u could have steak and chips at home for the same price as a burger in mcdonalds and it made me think....oh well the kids need a few more plastic toys to do their bit to fill up land fill:rolleyes:

    take care
