    Hi,
I also received a very similar letter from Direct Recovery Solutions this month. I wasn't going to answer because I know that I have no outstanding debts. Curiosity got the better of me. I withheld my phone number and rang the 0870 number. A woman answered and I gave her the dodgy looking reference number. She then asked for my name which I declined to give. I asked her to write to me by name, detailing the information the company required and then I would reply. That didn't go down very well! I asked her what were the specific 'details' that they required. She told me she couldn't tell me because they were bound by various 'data protection laws'. All I did reveal is that I wasn't living in the house on the dates specified in the letter and no, I didn't have the forwarding address of the previous owner.
    I got a frosty 'goodbye'.
Glad to know it wasn't just me that received the letter though!
  • Hello all, I wonder if you can give me a little advice?

Like many posters here, I have received a letter from PastDue Credit Solutions saying they are collecting a debt on behalf of British Gas for a sum in excess of £500. (Debt originates from 2005).

I have been in my property (as a tenant) for around 20 years and until 3 years ago, obtained my gas and electricity supplies via a coin meter. When a new freeholder took over the building, they refurbished and removed all the outdated meters and all the tenents had to start an account with the respective suppliers.

I did this and have had an account with B.Gas for three years. I have no debt to them - in fact I am in credit. I also purchased the flat on a leasehold at the same time.

Should I contact this company or ignore the letter, as I had no account with B.Gas until 2 years after this debt is supposed to date from?

Should I contact B.Gas? There was also an enclosed letter from B.Gas saying that they had passed this on to PastDue and that any correspondence should be directly with them.

Please can somebody help me with this?

    Thank you in advance.

Apologies for the 'bump' but can anyone stick their oar in and help me? I'm really worried about this, so anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

Oh, nobody seems able or willing to advise me on this.... I realise that there are many questions put to you all that pertain to much more serious problems than this, but I thought it would be a quick and simple query to answer from those with experience in these matters.

Thanks anyway and good luck to all.

It sounds like the debt is completely fictitious. So I take the view that they are dangling a hook and hoping that you'll bite. I would ignore it but expect a few more letters before they give up.

I came across your query by accident. If you want a view on a problem, it is much better to start a new thread than latch on to one that has been quiet for a few weeks. I usually don't bother with a thread once the posts get into double figures as I usually find all the angles have been dealt with by that stage.

And many of us don't come on to this site until the evening...

    Hi fatbelly!

Thanks for the advice, I suppose I'll sit tight on this one and see what (if anything) develops.

The reason I didn't start a new thread is that I thought it better to add to a related topic rather than duplicate it, thereby cluttering up the forum.

Should anything further happen, I shall start a new thread in the hope of gaining additional advice.

    Many thanks for your input.

Just got a pastdue letter relating to a BSkyB account closure from 5 years ago when we moved abroad of £35 which I beleived to have been settled.

Checked their 0844 number which appears to generate money for them, so called on alternative number - person named at the bottom of the letter does not exist, and I was dropped after being transferred to 'Michelle'.

I think I'll wait for another year - I agree with previous contributors that this is most likely a 'fishing trip'.
"You must be really proud of your kids?"
Yes - but it costs me a lot for them to make me proud!
  • I too have been chased up by Philips Specialist & Debt Recovery Agents for a debt issued by Past Due Credit Solutions dating back to the summer. Today's letter from Philips stated that I would be visited by bailiffs within a week if I did not pay up. I called Philips to explain to me what was meant by 'Tti for SPC Owned British Gas' and when and where this alleged debt was meant to have been run up. They gave no information other than to say that my case had been closed with them and had been passed back to Past Due Credit Solutions. I mentioned that Past Due Credit Solutions were a scam outfit and she assured me they weren't. I don't believe her. I suppose I just have to sit tight and await the next letter from Past Due Credit Solutions. Do not pay any money to Philips.
