I did not choose to work till 10pm, it just how it worked out. I do not actually like working until 10pm (I have today off obviously). Surely it's better to have a job that isn't ideal than be on the "dole"?

Or is that too hard to understand? You just need to be a little more OPEN to the types of work that you are willing to take especially in a ""recession".

Yes i am happy to claim in one way and in another i am not.

Im not happy with it because it is a pittance but then again as i said i do not want to work unsociable hours in a bar.

Im entitled to JSA just like i am health care.
well at least ur honest, I give u that!

it is a pittence as its not to live off. its to help support you whilst u seek work. I personally dont agree with JSA at all. and disagree at u saying u are entitled to it. you've not paid anything towards the NHS as u dont work! if anything u actually OWE money to the NHS!

However bar work, e.g, is fast money (weekly pay) and up to lots of hours for a good cleared £250 a week. why do u prefer to scrimp on £50 a week not saving, buying and building for your future, really baffles me. PLUS u actually DO socialise and gain more in tips e.t.c... so its only unsociable to your body and possible day time. but who cares its a job. whats SO important that u cant work nights?!

does no1 have ambition these days?! why do people think they can live off JSA?! u really think u can jump in working the hours u want and on your terms... you'll be laughed out of the place. hence why u are unemployed.

you sound like oen of those people that thinks life owes them and u dont have to do nothing. Good luck with that attitude.

All those saying to do loads of applications - bad idea IMO. Quality over quantity!!! Do as many as possible - but do make sure the one's you do are done as well as possible. Rushing it and making silly mistakes and all the applications will probably go in the bin.

firstly i do not live off JSA, it gets me by. It is by no means enough to live off. £50 a week just about pays for my fuel to get about, as i stated i am lucky as my car is paid off and i am not a property owner which maybe allows me to be a little more specific than others, afterall, if i did have a mortgage then i would be looking at any job.

Secondly yes working in a bar is a job but it is no way an ambition of mine, it may be an ambition of yours.lol. I want to work full time, decent hours and earn what i can. Again, just because you may choose to work till 10 pm does not mean i have to!I want to work during the day, if that means 8-6 or 10-8 then so be it, i do not want to lose my nights. again..its quite simple. I do not think for one minute that i could call the shots with regards to the hours i work. I would be a fool for even contemplating about thinking about it, that is why i am applying for work that appeals to me. the regular day job.

Thirdly i have worked and therefore have paid towards the nhs which is what makes me entitled to it, it also paid for my knee operation and it will pay for any treatment that i need in the future. I have contributed and therefore i am entitled...what made you think i wasn't? Do you know me? Didn't think so!

and finally.... life owes me nothing. If i thought that way then i would happy to claim benefits, and sponge from the system. maybe if i thought that way I wouldn't even have started this thread stated " I just cant get a job" which means I am actually looking.
Hell I even sent off 6 application forms yesterday, it may not be as many as most but it is classed as attempting to get a job.

As for your contribution to this thread.....it doesn't stand for a lot and does not say much about your character..or lack of it.

OP your title should read I just cant get a job that I want, which is different to just cant get a job.

Until sept last year I earned 30k working 50 hour week, I had to keep lowering my expectations until I recently got offered a job.
Its 16 hours a week at £6 ph, working in a back office and that's over 5 days with 5 days worth of train fares.
It is not enough for me to live on but it is better than nothing.

maybe when I'm there I might get extra hours or maybe another position might come up which is full time or pays more.

It is nothing to do with my previous job, its the bottom of the ladder in a new area for me, a far cry from my previous job where I was the manager.

I haven't signed on and with a few hundred pounds left wont need to as this will be more than I would get from jsa...just.

It is difficult to get a job, yes, but not so difficult when you stop being fussy, at this stage its entirely up to you, but if you end up on new deal, from what I hear you could soon change your mind.

no just one that prefers to work in a next to min wage job with loads of hours, rather than sit on my jacksy claiming a pittance JSA.

if ur car is paid for you, get them to pay for your life aswell

I never said bar work was my ambition. I said I HAVE ambition, as in to get somewhere with my career and sitting on JSA waiting for this company to give me what i want wont cut it. I need to be pro-active and earn money for various things, whilst seeking my career job. when u go to an interview now and they ask u 'why have u been working'. what will u say?! Have u been doing ANYTHING constructive?! NO! so u are in effect shooting yourself in the foot. and u expect some office boss to give u what u demand?! for what? what can u offer when u dont work or anything?! what do u have to show for your time of unemployment?! as they will ask you why u are unemployed! saying 'coz i cant get a job' will get u laughed at. coz there are TONS of jobs out there needing to be done. Its a meantime thing NOT permanent.

A lot of people want to work days but not everyone gets offered days, so u take what u can to get by and then work your way up.

Thirdly i have worked and therefore have paid towards the nhs which is what makes me entitled to it, it also paid for my knee operation and it will pay for any treatment that i need in the future. Your logic is screwed like I said. You outright refuse to do certain hours due to ur 'party/friends' time. yet u say u 'cant get a job'?! hmm...
  • my logic is screwed? and that is coming from someone who cannot even write properly!

Really, I do have a life and I have no intentions working in a bar, thats the only job I will not do. So is that such a bad thing?

Yes i have been doing something constructive and this is the first time I have been out of work, i have worked in a shop, office, factory and have unfortunately just become unemployed from january as i was self employed for three years. I have several computer qualifications including a degree in Computing. So to some degree I would say I have something to offer. But no job is guaranteed so as i stated, life owes me nothing.

So I would say I have been doing something constructive, and who said an office boss is going to give me what I demand? What am i demanding exactly? All I want is to work days,Is that so different? so I am hardly going to apply for a job for night work, then when i get to the interview state that I only want to work days, what a ludicrous thing to say, you really are not doing yourself any favours here pal.

Have you been down to the job centre recently? Its absolutely packed with people who have been made redundant and have lost their jobs. Do you think they are there through choice? I certainly am not, and all of those people could be out of work for months or even years. Do you think they want that?

    So Silly comments like this:
if ur car is paid for you, get them to pay for your life aswell

really sums up what kind of a person you are. Not much thought has gone into your reply. Are you 12?

Next time spend a little longer than a day before you reply because you might actually come up with something interesting and of some help.

I'd love to have my nights for myself! But what I want and what I need to do are TWO different matters! Working till 10pm is DEFINETELY not an ambition of mine, but needs must. You just need to be more realistic with what you are willing to take, after all, we are in a recession as you say.
