  • Thanks for the reply, apologies if i may have come across as saying that i would not get professional help, but the only thing i disagreed with was not working behind a bar.
Im not sure what work you are looking for but I wouldnt fancy travelling all the way to ethiopia to carry out admin work!!lol.....think of the travel costs everyday!!!!
If it was a job and a career that I really wanted to do then moving would not be a problem, maybe moving away just to become an admin assisstant/ office worker is a little drastic, plus I will be hoping to save for a house with my fiance.

I would never have though oldernotwiser was a career professional, he does not come across as one and I like the fact that you state he is usually helpful!!

    thanks once again!!

Hi, just some advice, ignore the negative comment from people on here about being on jsa and being choosy about your job. I did it and have experience. I finished work 30/4/08 on voluntary redundancy after 22 years in the same job and it took me five months to get a job as a clerk/typist in a factory where the people were nice but after a month I had to decide to quit because I could not work in an office alone, I was used to working with big teams of people. I took a risk going back on to jsa but I got my present job in feb and hope to be made perm in May. Its not the best job but I am going to stick at it and see if I can get something better, plus its only the next town rather than travelling to mcr every day which was 32 miles in total every day. Now its just 8 miles a day. Be picky and you will get what you want. you are entitled to the jsa,I was after 22 years paid tax.

    Hi Tyrone,

I quit my job due to personal reasons on Monday. :j:j

I've already put my claim in for JSA.

I've been to a local learning centre, run by the council, today to have my CV brushed up, it's a free service offered to people on JSA, does your council run something similar? Ask at your Jobcentre.

Also whilst your there enquire as to what courses they run.

I'm really experienced on using MS Office packages but don't have a qualifications to prove it so have signed up to do the ECDL (most NHS jobs require this anyway). I've also put enquiries in with other colleges about brushing up my other skills. It's just a thought, but is there anything that you're good at doing but have no proof, is there a way of getting proof IYKWIM?

BTW I've not read the whole thread so sorry if I'm repeating any advice.

I am applying for around 4 jobs a week

but I just need a job!!!

Thats where your going wrong mate.

Theres roughly 16 people applying for EVERY job.
So if you are only applying for 4 per week you are giving yourself very little chance.

However if you apply for 10x that, so 40per week, (not much at all tbh, only 6per day),
You will be giving yourself alot more chance to getting a job mate.

in a nutshell no i do not want to work unsocial hours...by that i mean in a bar working till god knows when in the night...i just simply do not want to do it, its as simple as that. im not being ignorant.
yet u are fully happy to claim money off the state (£50 a week) rather than the unsociable bar jobs that rakes in £250 a week...

    *smh*

Yes i am happy to claim in one way and in another i am not.

Im not happy with it because it is a pittance but then again as i said i do not want to work unsociable hours in a bar.

Im entitled to JSA just like i am health care.

*yawns* Why keep on making excuses not to work? It's pathetic! I work unsociable hours until 10pm which is certainly not what I wanted to do, but in my mind, a job is a job. I know you keep on saying that you don't want to do bar work, but you may find yourself enjoying it if you do take it. You may be entitled to JSA, but that doesn't mean closing your mind of to certain types of work.

  • i am not making excuses, really i am not, all i have said is that i do not want to work in a bar. its not that difficult to understand. Just because you work till 10pm does not mean every other person wants to.
