so are you saying brown knew about fred's pension settlement (making him a liar). why would he lie about it? he doesn't seem to be benefitting at all personally from the outcome.

or are you saying you should know about absolutely everything in every negotiation that takes place? not really possible.

i thought he was pretty convincingly fuming when the details came out.

If MSE is going to be filled with threads which take as their point of debate something said in a newspaper then Martin & Co would be better off spending their money hosting something else.

The 'report' at the start of this thread was fictionalised dross from drama-queens masquerading as journalists (hence phrases like 'this sinister group' to describe the vandals.)

I'd thought by now that MSE posters -- of all people -- appreciated that the Press over-reports the trivial and under-reports the important.

Thus: the Press missed -- entirely -- the ongoing scandal of the UK's lack of regulatory muscle. . . yet is now able to instantly and authoritatively chronicle a bunch of moronic yobs as a "sinister group" of "anarchists".

Doubtless the one or two individuals who broke a window and thumped a Merc are delighted at being christened "a sinister group" of "anarchists".

And if they're reading this, they'll be even more chuffed.

Especially as it'll show 'em that 'anarchists' isn't spelled with a 'k'.

My apologies, it was me that was going from the sublime to the rediculous in that instance.

true. harman came out with all that bluster about changing the law to get back the cash.

now it's gone all quiet on that front. maybe they are too busy telling us to watch out for our neighbours making dirty bombs.

Ironically, being vigilant is probably the best way of spotting terrorists, however there's a fine line between being vigilant and being a vigilante and there's an equally fine line for the government between sensible anti-terror legislation and behaving like the Stasi.
