    Run a KASPERSKY ONLINE SCAN
(May need to use internet explorer if memory serves correct)
It wont delete anything but it WILL tell us whats where so we can delete using other means
Please post the WHOLE log it creates

can i suggest that the next time you run a program to bypass or disable windows product activation, that it is safer and cheaper in the long run to pay for your software, rather than to lose your security, and possibly your banking password to these pirates

Thats what antiwpa does. it is pretending to bypass windows product activation - but it does far more than it says on the tin
Freebies you don't really need can be given to your local Hospice Charity shop so they can raise funds they desperately need. Pass on your good fortune :A

PC, which was bought from tescos, came with a genuine copy of windows. the only time the pc has been played with by anyone other than myself was when i had a hard drive failure a few months ago - i got a friend from uni to fix it for me as i didn't know where to begin. as far as i am aware, i still have a genuine copy of windows. my updates etc all come through fine - surely microsoft with all the techo wizardry at their disposal would be able to detect that someone wasn't using a genuine copy of windows when they came to update? if that is not the case then i am happy to be corrected - i know enough about pcs to get by but do not claim to be an expert.

if he has put illegal software on i won't be thrilled - if i wanted a free OS i'd be running linux.

kaspersky'd the usb on its own and the whole PC. both reports have come up totally blank (presumably because the Pc has been scanned to within an inch of it's life over the past few days :D). as aresult there is no log to speak of for either scan

Im still concerned simply by the fact that combofix wouldnt run

Your call. You can just see how it is over the next few weeks if you wish. But dont go thinking just because kaspersky couldnt find anything that its ISNT infection free (though it might be)

it *seems* ok. the files that it was leaving all over the place have disappeared on PC and usb. I'm uneasy by the fact that work PCs are rejecting my usb stick because of this infection. i'm tempted to cut my loses with this one. it's only 2gb, memory is dirt cheap nowadays and I have plenty spare memory sticks.

if there is anything that you can think of Rik i'll happily download and scan stuff til the cows come home if there's a chance it will help. i'm off to research free antivirus software because norton is not very user friendly and it's not picking up on a lot of stuff that your downloads have.

Kaspersky is the best 'all in one' av on the market

Whichever you choose id personally still use Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot as scanners (And spybot to prevent certain nasties infecting the HOSTS list)

I use AVIRA anti virus myself (free version)

Anyways, do as follows so we can see whats running behind the scenes ~
    • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
    • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
    • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
