As mentioned in another thread -Every once in a while my laptop loses its connection and can't see the router. But the desktop (wired) is fine and connects to the internet okay so I presume its specifically a wireless issue.
If I cycle the power on the router the laptop reconnects fine. The peculiar thing is that within the hour the same thing happens again. If I power down/up on the router its fine again and stays that way.
Very odd and don't ask me why but it works
Worth a try here?0 -
Macman: It does not say anything. It tries to get connected (you see the drawing and the "current" moving from one icon to the other) and then everything disappears and you are still not connected.
Espresso: I never got to a page like the Belking one you are showing. Should I access if from my Problem PC? And which settings should I change?
Blueboy: You are suggesting the desktop might not be working wireless but could work with hardware connection? Just want to make sure I understand what you mean.
Thanks to you all!0 -
Maybe what I need to do is a system restore (in my PC), chuck everything away and start from scratch.... but I don't dare and people who have used help with this have not had good experiences...0

OP, sorry to ask the obvious, but are you definitely trying to connect to your own network (your own SSID)? The reason I ask is that if the network name is the default (probably belkinxyz or similar), then the odds are that there is belkinabc elsewhere in your street.
It's easily done. Recently I had a case where someone had been trying to connect to his HomeHub123 (with the help of BT support) all weekend. Turns out he was trying to connect to a neighbours HomeHub456! So check that the SSID in the wireless settings page on your router is the same one you are trying to connect to.
Try what espresso suggests above.
If no luck I would then try changing the channel on the router, it's probably on the default at present. This is easily done in the wireless settings page.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Correct. I think the OP needs to go back through all the suggestions one by one, a lot of ideas have been thrown in, but we've not got the necessary feedback on some of them in order to eliminate some of the possible causes. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I entered the 42xxx when I was trying to connect the desktop to the chosen wireless connection. It did not asked me to save it. Where should I save it? I picked that Nº from the page where with the router setup from the laptop which does have WF connection0

That is what I did! I had tried using the SSID as network key (it worked with the laptop) but it did not work. I tried with the SSID again (it still did not work) and then with the 42etc. alphanumeric.... it did not work either. That is what I meant above.0

I suggest you change the default WPA encryption key to something else (which you need to change anyway) in your router login page, (using the laptop connection) save it, logout and then reconnect on the PC using that new key.
I don't know why you keep trying to use the SSID as your encryption key, because it will not work-it's not the same thing.
Otherwise switch off wireless security temporarily and try to connect unsecured-that will tell us if it is an encryption or a wireless problem. I'm beginning to wonder if your USB adapter does not properly support WPA encryption, which is why it's worth trying it unsecured.
Have you also ensured that you are connecting to the correct SSID? Rename your SSID in the router login and resave it to do this.No free lunch, and no free laptop
