NHS staff were due to receive a 2.5% pay rise from 1st April 2009. Heard this evening that it's been cancelled. Any body else this news?
Does this mean all public sector is going to be frozen?

Don't think so. They fixed the NHS and Police etc on a 3 year deal, which, last year, meant people had a pay cut (was half the rate of inflation). I believe they have agreed to honour the deal.
I doubt they could do the same again, after fixing a 3 year pay deal Brown was pushing, and give another pay cut.
I'm not saying they wouldnt try though!0 -
ha ha
what's new - my NHS pay hasn't gone up for 3 years, however my NHS pension contributions have gone up by a third this year!!!!!!0 -

Without evidence linked to, the above is just spreading rumour mill. Was your source a mad raving lunatic asylum seeker, or a government health official?0 -

I'd get on to your payroll department, and quick. NHS staff have had annual payrises for the last 3 years. 'Across the board' pension contributions certainly havent increased by 1/3rd in percentage terms (they're still between 5-8.5%)0 -
Health secretary Alan Johnson has denied reports that the three-year pay deal for nurses and NHS staff could be scrapped by the DoH.
His statement comes after NHS Employers admitted trusts were struggling to pay this year’s settlement.
The Times reports today that trusts may not be able to fund the 2.2% pay award for the third year of the deal due to the current economic uncertainty.
‘I would like to reassure NHS staff across the country that we will honour the three-year pay deal in full. It is a fair and balanced agreement which provides stability for the NHS and its staff. There is no question of it being reopened,’ said Mr Johnson.0 -
Looks like conclusion jumping again'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Big freeze starts to hit public sector pay
Official figures to show first signs of deflation
Jill Sherman, Whitehall Editor
More than one million nurses, midwives and other NHS staff face losing a promised pay rise in the first sign of a salary squeeze for public sector workers, The Times has learnt.
Pay freezes, or at best minimal rises, are also expected for thousands of senior civil servants, and government ministers, as Britain prepares for its first period of deflation for 50 years.
With many companies in the private sector imposing pay freezes and some even pay cuts, Alistair Darling is under pressure to set an example by restraining Whitehall and ministerial pay. A pay freeze from the top would set the tone for the imminent round of pay negotiations for other public servants, including one million local government workers, 450,000 middle-ranking and junior civil servants, and prison officers.
NHS sources said that pay for doctors, who have enjoyed relatively high rises in recent years, would be squeezed and suggested that employers were ready to renege on the third year of a pay deal for nurses and midwives worth 2.2 per cent as hospital trusts struggled to pay bills.
Not before time, but when does the cull begin??;)
This will be the first of many cuts.
How typical, Unison still pressing for wage increases!!! I've got a sneaky feeling they are going to be very disappointed in the coming months.....
I look forward to seeing the result and recommendations of the study in 3 weeks time, lets hope it goes far enough.....0
