I think he's quite okay to look at, and with an authoritative and pleasing voice.

Surely easier on the eye than Brown?

I don't disagree, but many people make judgements based on appearance rather than what they actually deliver. It's too much like hard work to base an opinion on fact!

Just think of the Lib Dems committing near-political suicide because they had to be seen to have a young-ish, fairly photogenic leader. Does anyone think Clegg's doing better than Campbell? All the LibDems good press is because of Cable.

I hope you're right and that people can see past the superficial... But I remember Hague often getting the better of Blair (at PMQ's for instance) and no-one took any notice once telflon Tony flashed the smile and gave a soundbite :(

Problem is, Gordon is so deep in denial he refuses to recognise that his government is already dead and the rotting corpse is a serious health hazard to this country.

Anyone with a conscience would have taken the country to the ballot box long before now. It seems he has a death wish ... but it's for every one of us.

    Dave.

Agree entirely, he is damaging both the economy and democracy.

Yes, what the Tories really need to demonstrate to the world that they are one with the ordinary people is yet another leading politician with a posh voice. One thing the Tory front bench is desperately missing is some bloke with a voice like that.

Hang on, didn't Labour have a posh, privately educated leader, massively out of touch with ordinary people for 10 years?

Exactly. Punters don't want plastic politicians with a nice smile and a posh voice any more - they want someone authentic. Why do you think Nick Clegg has a profile somewhere above an amoeba?

    Punters ..... want someone authentic.

Agreed. Well, not quite. A good few are happy to have dishonest politicians - provided their own particular interests are satisfied!

Are they a bunch of toffs? Crewe and Nantwich?

Is Timpson already on the front bench? Blimey, hadn't realised the talent pool was so bare.

No, but the local Labour party decided that the local people didn't like toffs so ran a campaign where they paraded people dressed in top hats. Went down a storm with the local electorate.

Yep because the only thing it focused on was the (incorrect) allegation that Timpson was posh. On a wider point you don't think that the Tories struggle to connect with their collective backgrounds? How many members of the Bullingdon Club on the front bench (with THAT photo)? How many multi-millionaires? How many bankers? How many went to Eton? Its a long way from John Major's rise from the Brixton gutter - THAT people could respect.

Its not insurmountable by any means. But it does leave them vulnerable to properly targeted jabs about how much Messers Cameron, Osborne et al understand what its like to be a real person on a working budget and struggle
