Thanks Radish :o I am not sure that my life is really news worthy though :p !!

I've completed all the questions now but just need to read the forms through and, you know, check for spelling mistakes and just ensure it all makes sense and whatever (I ramble terribly sometimes and these need to be quite clear etc obviously!). I am hoping to be able to print them off tomorrow and then post them on Saturday - I hope! :T

If/when they are approved, I shall make a note in my phone (which has everything in it!) about the renewal date. Good point. Now why didn't I think of that, I put reminders in for everything else... ?!

    Cheers xx

    Hi Twinblade,

No, nothing on the CC yet, I am waiting for the A&L paperwork to come through and get that organised before I chase again.

I probably haven't explained very well about the sofa. I currently owe £230 ish and my OH owes £450 ish. This is because I have been overpaying e.g. I have been paying both our halves whilst he was looking for a job. So I can keep doing that right now, for approx. 4 months, then my half of the debt will be at £0. Then I will get the DD put on his bank account instead to make it simpler. I cannot pay off this debt early without great difficulty - the DD needs to run til April 2010 really - if you pay by other means they charge you commission (don't ask!). Does that make more sense?

Not sure if you caught the beginning of my thread but the whole issue is that I won't be helping with his side of the bills... that makes me sound like such a !!!!! doesn't it  ... well anyway there are reasons for it as I've explained. Not least of which is that I don't have the money (or patience!) to help him out again. So the ones he can't pay will just need to be negotiated with and delayed where possible. I don't have a spare £x hundred / month to pay them and he obv doesn't either ... so we'll just have to cross that bridge if or when we come to it.

    Take care :o

Just gone on internet banking and DLA people have paid me one last time - OH MY GOD - I thought when they said stopping in March they meant the beginning of the month not the end. What's the world coming to when you get MORE than you expect from the Government :rotfl:!!

WOW so happy, this means I can pay for psych this month without dipping into CC savings. And without touching the A&L £100 (hopefully) bonus - also planned to go towards CC. I know it sounds mad but I have this feeling that I won't get another CC before June so I need to pay it off before then, I mean I've not been turned down for a CC before, but I am just not confident of getting this one for some reason. Perhaps tis all the scare mongering from the media affecting me :o LOL.

Anyway - what a relief! - I can now get my head down, get forms done, and focus on tightening my belt. Oh - and for those of you who want to see the sums involved, I'll be doing my budget on the weekend, so will be updating debt totals etc (I hope :D !).

    Cheers xx

    Hi Jenna

That's great news about the DLA payment.

I'm concerned about your sofa debt. Is the credit agreement in YOUR name? If it is when you come to change the DD to his account if he cannot afford to pay it at that point it will be YOUR credit history that is damaged, not his and you will still be liable for the debt.

    Hi Scottishmummy,

Yes, I'm worried about the sofa payment too ... I am just not sure what to do about it. The credit agreement is in my sole name and, as you have quite rightly pointed out, I know it will impact my credit rating and not his if it isn't paid. I am also aware that, legally speaking, I have sole responsibility for the debt.

My problem is that if I continue to pay the debt (at the point where my half is already paid down) then, in effect, I'm either loaning him or giving him this money. I cannot afford to gift any money right now, because I have debts; and I do not want to loan him any more money than what he already owes me. Not least of which because the resentment and arguments this would cause would very likely break us up ... which defeats the whole object I think

It's very annoying as he's a great guy in every other respect - we just have very different views on money. This would be OK if we weren't living together etc but (as this is my first 'proper' relationship if you will) I've certainly had a learning curve along the way! The only thing we really fight about is money (or lack of!) ...

I don't really like to talk to him about paying me the money back, because it just causes fights. Also the paperwork with the exact totals is somewhere at my Mum's (in a box with other paperworky type stuff) so it makes it difficult in that respect too. The last payment I had was in Oct 08 and I just added it to the running total of "paid back so far" - when I find the paperwork with the exact totals I can do a proper "balance left to pay" statement. There's at least £2.5k left to go, so no chance of him accidentally overpaying :D

It's very easy to say, talk to him about it, but it does provoke really bad fights. It all seems to come down that if I ask him about it, I don't 'trust' him or something like that? Whereas for me money is very non-emotive, it's just a business transaction and mostly about organisation. It's also a real pain in the bum as well sometimes, of course :rotfl:

I can't really do anything until he's got a job sorted as there's no point talking figures til he has some cash coming in, is there? The really annoying thing is that it's not malicious, he fully intends to pay me back a bit each month, but he hasn't had his LBM and the money just 'goes'.

I pay the rent to him each month and it goes on SO out of his account so I guess my last-ditch option is to reduce the amount of rent I send him as follows (again this is not for now, this is when he has a job):

Rent - Sofa payment - Paying me back = Amount I send him

I can only imagine that I shall then have to hide behind the aforementioned sofa to avoid terrible wrath :p ! But quite seriously this does also have the potential to cause me an issue as according to the contract we signed we are 'jointly and severally liable' for the rent e..g if one of us doesn't pay the landlord could chase the other for the full amount. So if I send him less £'s I do risk problems in getting the rent paid - as he may not have enough? - but there again if it's at that stage maybe we're better to move back in at home / find a much cheaper place. Don't know. As I said, learning curve!

I don't know ... it's difficult with people you love ... and I do, loads ... just want to shake him sometimes where debt is concerned!

Thanks for your reply, sorry to have a ramble at you :o , but it was thought provoking what you said so it was your own fault :p !!

    Take care xx

Monthly income after tax................ 1210.08 I am a contractor and get paid weekly. This is my weekly income x4. On a month with 5 weeks I would regard this as a 'bonus week' and use the extra money towards debt repayment - or clothes/holiday/birthday presents if I was short.
Partners monthly income after tax....... 0 I haven't included my OH's details. We split the bills 50/50 - he takes care of some and I look after others. For the bills that he is paying, I have written OH next to them, so it is clearer for you.

    Road tax................................ 10
Car Insurance........................... 49.68 This includes RAC breakdown cover (£33/yr minus £21 cashback = £1/month).

    £200 psych
    £18.24 dental ins
£10 'dailies' contact lenses (though I don't wear them everyday so 30 days supply lasts more like 6-8 weeks)

    Pet insurance/vet bills................. 0
Buildings insurance..................... 0 Landlord pays this
    Contents insurance...................... 0 OH
    Life assurance ......................... 0
    Other insurance......................... 0
Presents (birthday, christmas etc)...... 33 This is my Christmas budget but I've mostly stopped saving for it as am focusing on debts instead. Birthdays are budgeted for out of the 'bonus weeks' or (health permitting) OT. I try not to spend too much - though OH tends to get more than friends!
Haircuts................................ 40 In theory I save £20 a month towards haircuts - in practice I've had my hair cut once in the last 18 months (don't laugh, it actually looks very nice!). Also £20 / 6 weeks to go to a beauty therapist (legs etc waxed). I know this sounds expensive but actually when you think that a packet of Veet is £4.50 or so it works out both cheaper and less time consuming.
Entertainment........................... 80 £20 a week is my spending money - this covers food/drinks at work or anything I do at the weekend. The food at work is a big cost but most times I don't feel well enough to make myself lunch. I'm now considering taking some potatoes and microwaving them as a compromise - must be organised and try this!
Holiday................................. 10 A total guess - I put whatever money is spare into the debts, but if I suddenly get a lot spare, I will chuck some more into the holiday and Xmas funds too.

Can you possibly break down what OH contribution is please as you are paying 537.5 for rent is this the full rent or just your contribution? If its the full rent then Oh pays for

    Satellite/Cable TV...................... 0 OH

    Tv licence is 11.95
    my contents is 22.95
    internet/sat etc can be £30

i think he may be paying half for food and half for council tax is this right? If not then as he earns more than you(edit when he gets a new job) you need to look at increasing his contribution does he use the car ever? Ie you giving him lifts and buying food shopping so he needs to contribute to it.
I too live with my partner and we have seperate finances it will change when we have kids but for now it works.

    Hi

    Hey cocalls,

I have only put my bills into the SOA calc. so that the figures are accurate for my personal finances. My costs represent 50% of the household bills. This could be from splitting the bill 50/50 (as in the case of rent) or from paying separate bills (e.g. I pay water he pays internet/sat TV).

I have entered £0 for things like TV licence because my OH is paying them - so the cost is £0 to me / my budget. Obviously he is paying these bills at the appropriate price (we have researched into good deals etc) but that comes out of his budget.

Yes, he pays half of the food and half of the C/Tax, we each pay 50% of the household expenses (rent, utilities, C/Tax, bills etc).

I am not sure how else to explain it. I can't really post up his finances as I don't have his permission to - and I can hardly ask him, given this thread contains a lot of moaning about him and is really just a way for me to vent frustrations without causing an argument (we all need that sometimes :o !).

The car hmm he doesn't use it much, no. I do the food shopping online so no petrol cost there. I give him a lift about once/twice a month and it's usually less than 2 miles - but if it is a long trip I ask him to chip in. For example we drove to a pub to have some dinner a few months ago and he paid the bill for our food as I'd paid for petrol & driven there and back.

OK hope that makes sense? Thanks for your post, have a good weekend :D

Oh Radish :rotfl:you do make me giggle!! I shall try that one day when I want to stretch out on the sofa ;) no not really but it's funny to think about!!!

I've printed the forms out now so I really need to read back through them and make any corrections / re-print a page or two before I post them. Didn't get it totally done on Thurs. That may have to be a job for tomorrow though as I'm so tired tonight!

Got friends coming over soon (see, not going out, I am being good :p !) which should be fun - had better go though as they'll be here really soon.

Oh oh before I go (wait,, that rhymed! Am I always so random when I'm tired?! ) well anyway I got some holi pay that I'd cashed in from agency (have to, end of the tax year). I don't get paid holi for Bank Holidays, or indeed sick days, and I was intending to use this for a summer holi in June ... but now I'm thinking as we're not going away for a little while maybe I just use it towards the CC??

But I'm also worried that then when we want to go away I won't have enough as I only accrue it pro rata e.g. just over 2 days p/month... and I do also have some of the Bank Holidays coming up soon, what with Easter and then the ones in May... decisions decisions, I shall have to have a think.

Oh and might be entering a competition at my work for innovative business ideas (there is a LARGE cash prize for the top 3 ideas) - I am having a think about it - there's diff requirements on the type of ideas they want but it might be worth it?? The closing date is 5 weeks from yesterday... we shall see!!

OK guys have a fab weekend, I shall try to, not sure what I'll do with the forums being down! Take care xx

ok so let me get this right your rent is £1075/m wow thats really high can you move anywhere cheaper? I think thats high even if you live in lon.

Also with regards to posting up 'his' finances they're not just his they're your bills too!(Im presuming they have you name on too) So you're not posting his finances ie what he earns what cc he has etc you'll be posting up the household bills which we can help you cut down on as i mentioned in my post i think you could get for a lot cheaper esp if you have expensive sky packages etc.

With regards to seperate finances and living together we have our own seperate accounts and put some money each month into joint acc and all the household bills come out of that which personally i find a lot easier as i can see whats going in and coming out and you know things have been paid-if your oh is so rubbish w/ money how can you know if things have been paid etc? Also my OH is rubbish with money whereas i find it quite fun to find the cheapest of everything so i don't have to ask his permision to go changing supplier etc IYSWIM.
