I suggest you just pay the money to avoid any hassles. The more you delay, the more you'll have to pay.

    How so?

It's not like it's been to court, there's charge what ever they like but you don't have to pay.

    OP - just ignore it.

Under freedom of information I believe you can request every bit of information paypal holds that relates to you and the most they can charge you is £30.

Hi. I posted a thread yesterday, I have a similar problem. I sold A mobile to India 3 years ago. A chargeback was placed om my account five and a half months later! apparantly a stolen card was used to buy it but the credit card holder didnt notice until half a year had passed!! unlikely me thinks. I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED. I thought the issue was dead and buried after numerous emails, phone calls etc But two days ago I receive a debt collectors letter asking for £653.00!! I have not received any emails, calls, or letters prior to this and I certainately do not know where this sum has been invented by Paypal. I am going to CAB and if necessary will fight them in court. I sold the phone BNIP. The buyer received the goods I have done nothing wrong. I have acted reasonably and in line with all EBAY rules and regulations.

I had a similar experience to this. I sold a phone to someone in Portugal and they were really nice and chatty even added them to my MSN. About 7 months after I sold the item I got a chargeback for the amount as the Bank account details had been stolen. In the end i just had to take the hit and pay the moneyback as they threatened me with debtcollectors etc.

Hi. How did you manage to unlock your Paypal account??? I am in exactly the same position. Debt collectors letter three years after a chargback. Paypal account locked and cant gain access. I phoned Paypal and emailed them for help but I still cannot acces my account. Did you email Paypal asking for the emails they supposedly sent you? If that proves useful then I will do the same. Thanks

Paypal must be having an end of year sweep again :(

I received a letter from them a couple of years ago on an ongoing dispute. I sought legal advice and was told basically they are chancing their arm and can't do anything about it. I told NCO this and they said they'd pass on to Paypal.

Got another letter from NCO a couple of weeks ago and phoned them to say I don't owe any money as it was due to an ebay account and a paypal account being hacked.

Today I have received a letter, dated 2nd April, from S.C. Leatham-Locke LL.B (Part of the NCO group of companies) saying they will "recommend to our client that they prepare the necessary papers for the issue of legal proceedings"

I've had a quick check round the net about the company and they are renowned for this. Go get advice from Citizens Advice but please don't pay them anything without being advised by someone in the know.

I read someone stopped them by contacting FOS who wrote to Paypal. Strangely, Paypal jumped and stopped the harrassment.

I think I will ask my lawyer friend to write to them and suggest if they don't stop harrassing me for a non-existent debt I will take THEM to court for harrassment.

You're braver than I am then, no insurance with Royal mail if they fail to arrive and without online delivery and a signature you will lose a paypal chargeback. I like paypal and use it by choice not because i am forced to, but phones overseas are a no no for me.

You'll be fine though as long as you used the paypal address that they confirmed was 'OK to send to', and have online tracked delivery and a signature. Don't forget keep all your tracking details for a minimum of 6 months in case of problems.
