Paypal say I owe them money

Letter received from NCO based in Preston
saying I owe Paypal £125.78 - couldn't give me further details so I asked them to supply further details
In meantime spoke with PayPal who state it is for two transactions where apparently buyer says they have not received items
1 for £81 for a printer sold 29/04/06 not received filed 06/07/046 (69 days)
1 for £36 for a dummy alarm box sold 16/05/06 not received filed 29/06/06 (45 days)
they said they had been trying to contact me via email with no success so hence the letter from the debt collectors dates 09/03/09
I explained that I had not used the paypal account for ages as I had no longer got access to p/word etc and when I ceased using the account there were no issues and I don't recall ever receiving emails from them relating to this.
I asked them why it had taken them so long to get in contact via post and they said they only ever email - but like I say I don't recall receiving any emails.
I also pointed out to them that 69 days was rather long for someone to file saying they had not received something - and as this was heading towards 3 years I could not reasonably expect to still have the certificate of posting for the two items.
I am not sure what I can do now - any suggestions?
I did think about asking them to provide emails that they say they have sent with dates /times and delivery reports?
Can't belive that a paypal account I have not used in years has now suddenly been brought to my attention that it has reversal payments on it.
Had I been aware at the time I could have provided postage proof and claimed off the post office.
at a loss as to what to do really.

I suggest you just pay the money to avoid any hassles. The more you delay, the more you'll have to pay.0

Could you have been hacked? Seems a bit worrying that you lost access.
Presumably these could be genuine sales? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Hi Fay
I do recall the sales, just no problems and have not had any communications up until this letter albeit from debt collectors.
surely they can't do this .... nothing no indication of any issue and then come chasing me almost 3 years later?

I can't afford to pay out this sort of money for something that I was not aware of an issue relating to, what a mess!!!2007 £1749

There is another thread about Pay Pal chasing someone for money.
Are they having a big sweep as in looking for loose change down the back of the SOFA!0 -
I would try to regain access to your PP account and try to find out why you weren't getting emails.
Are you with hotmail, BT or other notorious important-email-blocking email systems? My TV is broken!

I suggest seeking some legal advice on how to contest the debt collectors. Unfortunately these parasites are difficult to get rid of once they latch on to you, so it won't be easy to fight them. Before closing a Paypal and/or eBay account, you should delete all your personal details, including address, bank accounts, credit cards etc.0

will ask them for full disclosure of all emails/receipts/details on paypal account before going further, they should have all the emails etc if they did send them as they say they did.....
however not one has arrived with me ....2007 £1749

Hi. I posted a thread yesterday, I have a similar problem. I sold A mobile to India 3 years ago. A chargeback was placed om my account five and a half months later! apparantly a stolen card was used to buy it but the credit card holder didnt notice until half a year had passed!! unlikely me thinks. I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED. I thought the issue was dead and buried after numerous emails, phone calls etc But two days ago I receive a debt collectors letter asking for £653.00!! I have not received any emails, calls, or letters prior to this and I certainately do not know where this sum has been invented by Paypal. I am going to CAB and if necessary will fight them in court. I sold the phone BNIP. The buyer received the goods I have done nothing wrong. I have acted reasonably and in line with all EBAY rules and regulations.0
