To rent you need money. Big recession, unemployment - particularly affecting young people - ie. the main rent forever losers (to borrow a term) - means less renters in the pool. New build areas, funded largely by mortgage debt and lies, for the BTL wannabees - now choice of no rent, or DHSS rent. DHSS gradually reduces capital values, and makes area less likely to attract the 'young professional' as most of them are looking for work.

It's one way of looking at it. Enjoy your lunch.

Of course you need money to rent. The recession is bad, for some, but the majority still have jobs, still have cash and still require rented accommodation. Your vision of deserted ghost towns and totaly repossessed new build estates is simply not going to happen.

This is another way of looking at it. Enjoy your lunch too.

Thing is, some of could go buy a property right now and let it out, but we don't. Returns just aren't there.

Like you I have nothing against them, and no I am not one.

A totally illogical desparate conclusion from the posts I have made I would say! But then so is your thread which assumes are LL's are in the same position.

It's not so much that the returns are not there, it's because it would be crazy to buy now when you can probably buy 15% cheaper in about a 12-15 months

I guessed what a shirtlifter is but looked it up just to check. What's sexual orientation to do with this thread?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I tend to agree with Mewbies' views,I see BTLers as a bit like footy fans, the majority are well behaved but a sizeable minority give the rest a bad name. This has been at the cost to FTB,s its easy to have borrowed 125% against the supposed value of their existing portfolio( I hate that word) and FTB ers couldn't compete and that was wrong.
I also think its gets far too !!!!!y on here and personal(learnt my lesson on my 1st postings:D )Sometimes I think there ars 13yr olds on here and not adults. There is a big "adjustment" happening and will continue to happen for the rest of 09 in my view.Rents I believe a lot of people will see big problems as Mewbie says, jobs lost, rents not paid and also DHSS will lower ceilings on what they are prepared to pay landlords which will force rents down.

Lastly those people on here who harp on about "Im laughing,my mortgage payments have dropped by ££££ a month, just remember there is a cost ,mostly at the cost to savers, lots of pensioners......
